Looking forward to this release! My public library already ordered it.

BTW---"Show Business" was remade several years later almost scene-for-scene by the Three Stooges as "Pain in the Pullman" Both shorts are wonderful despite being mirror images of each other.

FS DVD: YOUNG & BEAUTIFUL (1934)

Yes, this is the rare movie Leonard Maltin devoted an entire chapter to in his new book! A delightful backstage Hollywood story--with lots of exteriors and sound stage shots. Best available transfer--digitally improved, but still on a scale of 10--a 5 1/2. Still NOT the junk quality one finds at fil...

You have a good memory---their transfer was a below average dark copy of an old 16mm TV print.

As many of us know, they are no longer in business.

Re: Cinevent - Columbus, Oh. Film Schedule Announced

I yearn for the good old days of Cinevent in nice suburban hotels with reasonable admission price, adjacent free parking and ...

Re: Silent collection for sale

It would help if you had asking prices.

When it comes to sale of rights, very few collectors would have that kind of money. A lot of Valentino material has been
on the collectors market for decades, so demand would be low unless a title never seen before on the market.

I downloaded that clip last week and made a dvd copy to run at my weekly home theatre showings---great on a big screen---love those great theatre marquees with the chaser lights!!

One of my guests familiar with NYC thinks the old Embassy newsreel theatre is now a visitor center---right?

Back in the 1970s and 80s when I was in the 16mm & 35mm film hobby, I used to sell films to Richard Swarz.
I always wondered what the Thalia was like.

Re: How much has Mommie Dearest been proven / disproven?

It was a much different world in the 1930s, 40s and 50s. Back then, children were disciplined with spankings and corporal punishment. For some strange reason, most of them grew up to be fairly decent law abiding citizens. I was one who was often paddled in school back in the early 60s...when it was ...

Re: Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid (1982)

Now WHY would Universal want to go to the great expense---MUCH higher than what it cost back in 1982--to find better footage AND re-impose the Steve Martin content for a re-release Blu-Ray that will have only limited sales? They would never recoup such an expense. The screen shot quality on Blu-Ray ...

EBB TIDE was a Paramount feature release of that time and the theme song from it was very popular. Years ago I had a print of the movie and found it rather dull. WHAT does HV mean? That's a new one on me.

The Sin of Harold Diddlebock/Mad Wednesday was the worst of Harold Lloyd's movies. There are various editions on the market since it is in the Public Domain.

I've never seen a release that is any better than "average" quality.

I would look at the big box discount or hobby stores---you can usually find a decent one-sheet frame for around $20. One sheets are usually 27 x 41 so bring a tape measure with you to make sure the frame is exactly the right size. Over the years I've gotten really high end frames at yard sales, but ...

I was wondering why quite a few obscure Republic titles have shown up in the last couple years. This is indeed great news.
