Re: Pending releases from Flicker Alley

You should watch the 2014 version of Little Annie Rooney scored by Andy Gladbach and also watch Sparrows and then you will become a bigger fan of Mary. TCM ran Little Annie Rooney with the Gladbach score in 2016. It was great. If that's the version and score FA is releasing, I'm buying. As for Spar...

Re: Pending releases from Flicker Alley

I'm not a Mary Pickford fan, but I really enjoy Little Annie Rooney, so I'm looking forward to that release. I guess I'll have to continue my wait for a BD of Valentino's The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Re: THE LOST WORLD (1925) - new restoration?

If Flicker Alley adds the Alloy score to future purchases only, this will be the last dvd or blu-ray I ever pre-order from Flicker Alley. Lost World is one of my favorite silent films. The blu-ray picture quality is great, but I preferred the old Image Alloy score.

Re: What's The Last Silent Movie You Watched? [2017]

Last night I caught The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse on TCM. The film still holds up very well, I think. Regardless of the obvious interest in Valentino, the whole package is a pretty good film. I only caught the end the other night. I burned a copy off TCM about 8 years ago, but it's one I'd li...

Re: FRITZ LANG SILENT BLU BOX from Kino

Major price drop today, folks, on Lang Blu-Ray box. $94.29. Thanks. Good news as I cancelled my Canadian order a couple days ago because my mailman is being reassigned. I've had too many problems in the past with non-USA orders that only got delivered because my previous mailguy pulled them out of ...

Re: KEATON BOX SET FROM EUREKA COMING SOON

I must have 3-4 dvd's of The General, including the Kino blu-ray and yet the one I always watch is the older version with the Mont Alto score. For me it's the definitive score, like Jon Mirsalis's score for Woman in the Moon. I'm old and set in my ways. A new and improved picture doesn't make it mor...

In the end, I just wanted the poster to be sure he was getting the price he thought he was getting. Jim I wasn't sure until I pre-ordered last night. I'm still not sure because I don't understand an almost $60 difference in price. I'm still leery about the Canada order after problems I began having...

Re: FRITZ LANG SILENT BLU BOX from Kino

I've ordered CD's and shave goods from Canada without paying a duty. Amazon.ca seemed like too good a deal for a US buyer which is why I asked. I have it pre-ordered from the Canada site and total with (Standard International-approx 2 weeks) shipping to the US is $114.95 CDN. By my estimate that's a...

Re: Cliffhanger Serials on Blu-ray: What do you want to see?

On the Home Theater Forum Wade Williams posted that he intends to release "Buck Rogers" on blu-ray. I still remember coming home from grade school in the 50's and watching Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon serials. I would love to have a good copy of both on blu-ray. I'd also like to see the Crusader Ra...

I have Destiny and Metropolis on Blu and 4 others on dvd, but I'm probably going to double dip. Since it's near Christmas, I may ask my wife to "surprise me". Heck, last year, she totally surprised me with a $700, 5 vol set of The Count of Monte Cristo that I had my eye on for years. I don't know th...

It was shipped last Friday from Calif and I got it in NJ today (Monday). That's as quick as priority. I remember when media mail took weeks. Only watched about 30 minutes before my wife took control of the tv, but it looks great.

Re: George Romero Dead at 77

The original Night and Dawn are still my favorites. Nothing was scarier than watching the original Night of the Living Dead at a drive-in while people going to the snack bar shuffled past your car, like the dead on screen. My (future) wife and I saw Night when it first came out. The first night, the...

Re: National League of Decency

In the late 1950's/early 60's, my parents got a Catholic newspaper called The Monitor which had the Legion of Decency ratings. If I wanted to see a movie, they first checked the rating. Of course, with 3 theaters in town, once they dropped me off and drove away I'd walk to the theater showing the mo...

All the theaters I went to as a kid, and well into my adulthood, closed years ago. I saw the movie on the Steel Pier in Atlantic City, NJ in the summer of 1964, but since I can't remember what I had for breakfast this morning, I wouldn't remember if any scenes were deleted from the TCM airings I've seen in recent years. It is my favorite, and only, Beatle's music CD that I own.

I never saw alcohol being kept in someone's desk in any of my workplaces dating back to the late 1960's, but I worked with plenty of guys, including bosses, who came back wasted every day from lunch. When I was in the army reserve in the late 1960's, I knew "Deuce-and-a-half" drivers who would put w...

So I DVR'd it on TCM last week and I thought they were running the 1999 Criterion version with the Voices of Light score which I enjoyed far more than the totally silent version I saw years ago. The ending credits, however mentioned a 2015 restoration by Gaumont. Does anyone know if there a new rest...
