Do they have documents proving that Chaplin and Goddard got married, or are they just prettying things up?

2019 TCM Film Festival Walks on the Dark Side

The 2019 TCM Classic Film Festival, its 10th Annual, just concluded. Here's my review of the Festival, a way for fans to view classic films and make new friends at the same time. The films I chose walked on the dark side, with issues still topical today. https://ladailymirror.com/2019/04/17/mary-mal...

"The Signal Tower" Faces Danger

The San Francisco Silent Film Festival has restored Clarence Brown's 1924 film "The Signal Tower," which blends his talents for man and machine into a moving tale of mixed signals and danger. Universal went to some trouble putting together the railroad tale. Here's the story: https://ladailymirror.c...

Re: OMG the great George Arliss; I hope it is in 1901 silent

The vast majority didn't run out West to hide. The East Coast had terrible winters 1910-12 and most went looking for sunshine to film and found ample in Southern California. They did not hide their names or locations in interviews with the LA papers or the trade publications, which you would do if y...

Re: FLESH AND THE DEVIL on TCM: BAD CONVERSION!

About 10 years, the LA Conservancy screened THE FLESH AND THE DEVIL downtown in one of the restored movie palaces as part of its summer Last Remaining Seats series. The person who introduced the film set up it as a joke, and then there was laughter throughout the film whenever Gilbert and Hansen wer...

"Open Secret" Timely film on Tolerance

The TCM Classic Film Festival is showing the little known film "Open Secret" starring John Ireland on Friday, April 12, a tale of religious and racial tolerance as a couple deal with a gang of bullies terrorizing a neighborhood in order to run unwanted neighbors out. https://ladailymirror.com/2019/0...

Re: Fredric March's name taken off UW-Madison auditorium

Lake was very difficult to work with. I've looked at the production records for some of her films. She was pregnant during the making of SULLIVAN'S TRAVELS, and was put in a conference call with her doctor and the studio people about taking care of herself. For one of her later films, there was a th...

I believe the first is Florence Turner doing some of her weird faces. There are clips from several of Chaplin's films and it is real newsreel footage of the Parkhurst March and the dogs going to Antartica.

Re: San Diego- silent film places?

I'd suggest going to Balboa Park. It was used in multiple films from the time it opened through the late 1920s, like a Fatty and Mabel visit to the Fairgrounds, Douglas Fairbanks' "The Americano," and Mary Pickford's "Rosita" among others. If there's time, go to the Hotel Del Coronado, used in silen...

If you watch virtually any film from the late 1920s through the 1930s of people coming to Hollywood, be it on train, car, or wagon, they usually pass a joshua tree as a sign they are going west.

Heat Lightning shows them as well.

MD, BEWARE OF MARRIED MEN played fine though it was short. There was more Irene Rich and Stuart Holmes than anything but Myrna appeared enough onscreen. There's not much of Richard Tucker though he was the attorney for Myrna.
