Re: Loving The Classics: A Warning

I wish I had read this thread before I was duped into parting with my money.

Ordered films 6 weeks ago but they don't reply to my emails.

Re: Anna-Liisa (1922) on DVD

Does anyone know if this film has English intertitles? I feel as thouh I know this film really well because I downloaded it from Internet Archive and got hold of a translation of the intertitles and added the English titles underneath. Took me a while but I really enjoyed the resulting film. Therefo...

Re: Indiegogo: Blackhawk Films DVDs On Demand from Flicker A

Dennis, thank you for your post about DVD-R versus pressed DVDs. I normally don't post and just use the site for information about new releases but just felt I wanted to comment on the attack on made on demand DVD-Rs. As Dennis said I don't see why the quality of the film purchased would be any diff...

Re: Remember when we used to watch Chaplin for fun?

[ I totally agree. While it's nice to see a 120th restoration of Caligari or Nosferatu, I'd much rather see the money go towards preserving films about to fall to pieces. The Hitchcock's are, I guess, a bit different. With the exception of The Lodger, they haven't been restored to death and my under...

Re: Remember when we used to watch Chaplin for fun?

I'd like to echo a lot of what's already been said. When I was a kid the Chaplin shorts on TV were my only experience of silent films and I loved them, particularly Easy Street. I can't remember what the quality was like, it probably wasn't very good but it didn't really matter that they were scratc...

Thanks everyone for your comments. I have a volunteer for the Dutch intertitles on The Green Manuela and a number of the films with German intertitles. Are there any takers on the Spanish and Poruguese ones? I'd really like to be able to watch some of the Spanish films (and understand what's going o...

Thank you everyone for your comments. My intention is to add the translated English titles underneath the original titles. I could take screen shots of the original titles and email to any volunteers, or send a copy of the film in its original state whichever is preferable. The way I add the titles ...

I wouldn't have thought that any Richard Barthelmess film should be regarded as minor.

Translation of foreign language intertitles

In my collection of silent film dvds are a growing number that do not have English intertiles. Either silent films made in non English speaking countries, which naturally have intertitles in the language of that country, or alternatively US/British films where the only surviving print is one produce...

Sorry to go back to an earlier conversation but I cannot view the films satisfactorily at all. I have a very fast broadband connection on a new pc with masses of space but the films just stutter along to the point that it's not worth watching. Someone mentioned earlier downloading the films to watch...

Thanks for all the info everyone. The films they have that I'm interested in are certainly very rare so I guess I'll have to acquire them over time, as and when funds allow.

National Centre for Jewish films

Forgive me if anything similar has been posted before. I stumbled across this site: www.brandeis.edu/jewishfilm/Catalogue/filmsaz.htm#T It has a number of very interesting titles from the silent era on DVD which I have not seen elsewhere, namely: Benya Krik - 1926 His Excellency - 1928 - Grigori Ros...
