Re: MODERN TIMES Titles

The FOX-CBS/IMAGE ENTERTAINMENT version that was released on laser disc in the 90s and DVD in the 2000s has the ROY EXPORT disclaimer in the 4th main title card floating towards the bottom of the screen and you can stil see the original U/A copyright in the center of the screen, and the sweep hand o...

Re: Jerry Lewis garnering attention FB though he is still al

Recent post in Marx Bros. blog states that a member once saw a "complete" print of A NIGHT AT THE OPERA in France. It had more dialogue than the American prints. It was in English, but subtitled. The viewer felt that after a while they didn't even bother putting subtitles when Groucho was speaking b...

Re: House of Wax/Mystery of the Wax Museum Blu-ray Specs

I, too, was very disappointed when the HOUSE OF WAX/MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM DVD came out about 10 years ago. The color was all off for Mystery. I kept my MGM/UA Laser Disc because the color on that was truer to 2 strip technicolor. Then I was excited when I saw that Warner Home Video had a limited...

TAXI FOR TWO - Roach's TAXI BOYS Series

Just saw TAXI FOR TWO-one of the TAXI BOYS series. In the beginning of the film Ben Blue is help a man get his fiance so they can elope. I could of sworn that the actor playing the eloper was Joe Young, Robert Young's brother. I know he is Spanky's Dad in MAMA'S LITTLE PIRATE. IMDB lists him as ROGE...

My old vhs tape of SHOW PEOPLE has stuff that is not in the LASER DISC and now DVD-R release. I am sure that the version on vhs would not sync up with the MOVIETONE (VITAPHONE?) track. Anyone know if there is stuff in the LASER DISC/DVD-R version that is not in the old vhs version? Hmmmmm....

Re: Laurel & Hardy Essential Collection

Just noticed that this set is ranked #117 in overall DVD sales; not bad for an 80-year-series of films. By contrast, the first season of the well-regarded TV series "Community" ranks at #660. But everyone knows there's no money to be made in releasing old B&W movies. Are you seriously suggesting a ...

Re: OUR GANG's "NOISY NOISES" (1929)

Maltin's book on Our Gang stated that the orignal discs were missing, though even it's revised edition, that source is quite dated and it's possible that the discs have surfaced during the interim. That is true. In the past 15 years, or so, the VITAPHONE DISCS for Laurel & Hardy's "WE FAW DOWN" wer...

Re: New Keaton boxed set from KINO

In regards to cropping. If anyone had the Laser Disc of Chaplin's "CITY LIGHTS" that offered the original sound track AND the modern Carl Davis digital re-recording, the film was presented in true full frame (window boxed). Compare that with the Warner Home Video DVD release. If you know the scene w...

OUR GANG's "NOISY NOISES" (1929)

I have the German DVD set of the M-G-M Our Gang silents. They have "NOISY NOISES" with what sounds like a VITAPHONE track. SWEETHEARTS with JEANETTE & NELSON

Just got my copies of SWEETHEARTS and NAUGHTY MARIETTA from Warner Home Video. The first disc I checked out was SWEETHEARTS. I felt that the transfer on this DVD issue looked over saturated with very high contrast. I have the MGM/UA LASER DISC from the 1990s, and I feel that there was more sparkle t...
