Re: Alpha Video

My feelings about Alpha Video are mixed. They have some rare stuff, but the image quality is sometimes VERY bad. Contrasty, washed out, needle drop scores...all the hallmarks of cheepie presentations of silent films on video. But, most of their films sell for five bucks or less, so, you can't really...

I am wondering if the Eye logo is a television network logo, or an archive logo. If TV network, what country? I see one in Pakistan. Re: Paramount Pictures' Centennial

I have difficulty with accepting the 1912 centennial for Paramount. Zukor did important a French production in 1912 and W.W. Hodkinson did found Paramount Pictures in 1914 but a more realistic centennial year for the true Paramount Pictures will be 2016. By 1916 Paramount was a Zukor/Lasky entity a...

Thos. Ince & Indians on PBS

On pbs's History Detectives, two girls found a pay ledger featuring Indian actors from the New York Motion Picture Co.

Wish they could of talked more about the films and Ince himself, but it's still an interesting video.

1950's Australian Metropolis Trailer

Thought this was kinda neat.
So, I thought I'd share.

Anybody have any info on this release? This looks like a "sonorised" version of the film with sound effects. If so, this might be pretty interesting to view.

Re: Moroder version of "Metropolis" coming to blu!

[/quote] Mmmmmmmm. OK, I guess I was lucky to have some public television stations and "fright night" channels where they would sometimes drop in a silent every once in a while, because that's where I learned all about them and realized at a young age that the Moroder version was just crap. Maybe it...

I've purchased some videos of their commercial compilations. They used to sell'em back in the mid-90's on late night television. I'd go back in time just to see some missing films---or just films in general---it'd be interesting to see the original audience for something like Metropolis...and go shopping for Black Patti 78's. Kino's DVD of The White Hell of Pitz Palu-Out Of Print?

So, last year I noticed that this title had disappeared from Kino's mail catalogs. They're still selling their other Riefenstahl films, but why not this one? Rights expire or something? Anyone know of any reissue plans? (On a hunch, I ordered a copy last December from Wallmart's website. It was arou...

I've got to say, I have a liking for Larry Semon, at least in excerpts. He could be very annoying, and his films became repetitious (explosions, various messy liquids to fall into, often from high buildings) but along with the grotesque exterior there's an almost balletic body language, very like L...

I'd say 7-ish. Love'em enough that I'll search out rare titles on dvd-rs from obscure companies---but not enough that I'll pay multiple hundreds of dollars for 16mm prints of them.
