Re: Charles Butterworth, Professional Silly Ass

Thank you for the article which I quite enjoyed and benefitted from. These days, Butterworth's dry sense of humour and a sense of the absurd is sadly out of fashion. I love these American movies and two-reelers from the infancy of cinema until into the 40's before a form of loud, vulgar idiocy took ...

Re: Two Will Hay double features coming to DVD in the US.

It's wonderful that Will Hay, a comic genius, is now becoming better known in the USA. He was quintessentially British as were armies of UK comedians largely unknown outside of what had been the Empire. Sadly, he didn't make scads of movies. I have his complete works.

Re: What Film(s) Sparked Your Interest In Silents?

My father could not resist buying items "that fell off the back of a truck". One day when I was about 5, he brought home a projector and cans of film. For an extra couple of dollars, the thief taught my father how to operate the projector. My two brothers, neighbourhood kids, and I watched "Happy Ho...

You are quite right in your condemnation of this dogroll of a movie. I fell in love with Jean E. after getting a copy of the LETTER and watching her extraordinary performance. I began reading everything I could about her and finally got a copy of the Kim N. movie in a trade.

Re: Selling up my DVD collection

My country of residence is New Zealand. This is not a secret. "Not of this World" is a joke. I certainly replied to well-known, professional DVD dealer Sid Bloomberg who, unlike me, will not provide a catalogue. Quite clearly this a campaign to prevent me from queering Sid's pitch whose outrageous p...
