Re: The Bold Caballero (1936) in Magnacolor

Thanks for your message. I understand this is a 2-color process, but have found little documentation on the original Magnacolor look. The only useful samples are the frame enlargements to be found here , with good blues but yellowish/orange skin tones. https://filmcolors.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/...

The Bold Caballero (1936) in Magnacolor

This is supposed to be the first Zorro film in color, but I see that it is currently available on DVD both in b/w and in color. I am not familiar with the Magnacolor process, but some screenshots from the color version look somehow uneven (almost like colorized). Any hint if this is the original Mag...

Larry Semon's shorts were dubbed in Italy and the results are silly even if I don't exactly understand everything that is said. Larry Semon dubbed films enjoyed great popularity on Italian TV in the 1960s. A 1953 compilation of Italian-dubbed shorts has been recently published on DVD (available on ...

Isn't the surviving print a 16 millimeter format? In 2014, a restoration was screened at Bologna. It was from George Eastman House, with the restoration funded by The Film Foundation. http://www.film-foundation.org/common/movies/film_details_v2.cfm?QID=625&clientID=11004&sid=2&ssid=7" target="_blan...

The video presentation is not as crisp as Ma l'amor mio non muore!, still the film looks very enjoyable.
The disc is currently available only through Cineteca, but I think Amazon.it will sell this on September.

Italian science-fiction from the 40s

In 1943 an omnibus film called "Gli assi della risata" also fearured this short science-fiction musical, lovingly mocking Flash Gordon, Metropolis and Fred Astaire. The setting is 1999, as seen by Italian audience from 1943.
