Re: Color from Black-and-White: colorized photos
Thanks for the praise, Bob. I sort of like the "washed-out" look on the Fairbanks photo. Yours doesn't look bad at all though. I will say that I went through some "post-production" work with that photo, and a few of the variants do look very similar to yours. I also went through some post-production...

Re: Color from Black-and-White: colorized photos
New post over at my blog! This time I'm focusing upon some of the men of the silent era. Two of the pictures featured are recycled images you've seen before, but I do have four new color transfers. http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/aa425/asiri358/arizona3.jpg Douglas Fairbanks, Theodore Roberts, a...

I can't tell you anything about the discs, but I can tell you that the film (or most of it) is available online to watch at the Europa Film Treasures site. http://www.europafilmtreasures.eu/PY/312/see-the-film-the_three_must-get-theres I remember watching it about two years ago, and I enjoyed what I...

Re: Color from Black-and-White: colorized photos
Bob, :o Anyone know something about this photo? All I have is that it is from 1935. I think that is Norma Shearer on the left end, and forth from the left may be Jean Harlow? Am I way off base? http://api.ning.com/files/xzbUPPej5RnfiBw0bbgi8911AAP8k9QJwDtbEvadY8laiNm2N4jm2LfptdNUJGOxkWcjNFd6ueGLCph...

Re: What Films Do You Wish You Could Edit?
I'd lose the Broadway Melody ballet sequence from Singin' In The Rain. Nothing against Gene and Cyd, but the sequence is overlong and really, it belongs in a different film. All it does is put a pause button on in the middle of the film..... You beat me to it! I've always felt the same way. Other r...

The original press snipe: A THANKSGIVING MARCH. Dorothy Jordan and Anita Page, two exceedingly charming Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer featured players, believe in following their turkey around until the fatal Thanksgiving morn. They’re taking no chances! Poor old turk, but what has to be, will be. http://i119...

The Wedding March (1928) - It's my favorite von Stroheim film, but the Corpus Christi scene goes on much longer than it really should.

I don't think anyone has mentioned Douglas Fairbanks' "The Gaucho" yet. Not biblical, but I think it would qualify as being religious.

Re: Color from Black-and-White: colorized photos
There's a new Halloween post on my blog. No new color transfers though. It consists of two color transfers that I have done before (The Phantom of the Opera and Death Takes a Holiday), a vintage Addams Family color postcard, and two lobby cards from early '60s horror films that were given to me by a...

Thanks Bob! I'm feel somewhat sheepish to admit it, but the Pickford sheet music is far too big for my scanner so I used my digital camera on it. It was actually something of a test because I have several other pieces of sheet music that I would like to use on my blog in the future. The actual sheet...

Buster Keaton's "autobiography" (I think it was largely ghostwritten based upon the co-author's interviews with Buster) is also an interesting read even though it is on the light side. Interestingly enough, the book is freely available for download (pdf, kindle, etc.) from archive.org - http://archi...

The Stewart-Sullavan photo may be your best work yet. It is as perfect as I have ever seen a color transfer. Your watermark is illegible and obtrusive though.

Hi everyone. I am David Alp. Re: THE UNKNOWN a New Transfer? LE GONG Premiere?
Legong has played on TCM before. It was shown on June 23, 2010 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Milestone films (I just looked that up to make sure). Perhaps you missed it because it "slipped under the radar" - 1935 doesn't exactly scream silent you know.

LC, :o Great photo. But is Edgar smoking a pipe or a Tomahawk? Now that really is a tough character! Haha! Actually, I have noticed that in movies where EGR is playing a "tough guy" or gangster he normally is seen smoking a cigar. However, in movies where he is playing on the other side of th...

Thanks for the praise, Bob. As I said, I did want to make it unobtrusive - perhaps I made it too unobtrusive though! On the other hand, I've seen some people go way overboard on watermarks to the point that you can't really appreciate the photo. Case in point, there is a really well done website tri...

My latest effort and the first to bear a watermark! I tried to make it at least somewhat unobtrusive. Anyway, my brother who is a pipesmoker tells me that EGR's collection is quite high-end. Not basket pipes by any means!

Little Caesar, I don't mind anybody using my photos even if they don't ask permission, but they should at least give credit. My consolation is that by the time the photo goes through cyberspace, the dpi rate is pretty low and that limits the photo's use. I too have been thinking about some sort of ...

Gagman, I can see the pastel effect in your version. You also managed to squeeze out more color in the background. How did you color the dogs? I didn't but left the ambiant brown that covers that whole photo (I removed it from the snow) and added "dark sky" to darken the coats on the dogs. Are the T...
