Re: Color from Black-and-White: colorized photos

Thanks for your kind words! Here's a Clara Bow photo I've had for a little while (got it off of ebay from a seller who didn't do a very good job of describing it. Probably the reason why I was able to get it for three dollars). I'm not sure what's going on with that lighter portion on the left side....

Re: Political Affliations?

Harold Lloyd was an alternate delegate at the 1948 and 1952 Republican conventions. Since Myrna Loy was mentioned, I believe that I read somewhere that her frequent co-star William Powell was a Republican (correct me if I'm wrong). I also remember Loy lamenting in her autobiography that Robert Montg...

Re: Color from Black-and-White: colorized photos

I've been busy for these past few weeks and haven't had much time to do many color transfers. Here a few new ones that I've been able to complete. First, a shot of Clive Brook and Evelyn Brent from Underworld: http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/aa425/asiri358/underworld2.jpg Second, a portrait of H...

"Wings" Episode of Petticoat Junction on MeTV Friday (8/31)

According to my digital cable guide, the "Wings" episode of Petticoat Junction will be broadcasted on MeTV Friday morning. For those of you not familiar with this, Buddy Rogers and Richard Arlen guest star as themselves. In the episode, they respond to Joe Carson's (Edgar Buchanan) letter of complai...

Re: LONESOME (1928)

I received the blu-ray today from deepdiscount. I've had time to sit through Lonesome in its entirety (for the first time too I may add), and it looks very nice. The score is the original synchronized score, and the three talking scenes are present. Broadway looks good too from the few minutes I obs...

Re: Color from Black-and-White: colorized photos

Consider the following color transfer a preview of my first blog post "A Defense of Professor Beware." I've always been quite fond of this film, but aside from a few comments I've seen here on Nitrateville, most comments I've seen of this film have been quite dismissive. So, I thought that I would t...

Re: Any your wacky posters watch TCM restoration of Night Fl

I DVRed the movie and had the chance to watch it yesterday. My opinion: not a bad movie, but not a particularly good one either. The Barrymore brothers leave the best impressions. The other players are not on the screen long enough to make any type of impression. I can't say that I wasted my time, b...

Re: Color from Black-and-White: colorized photos

The photo is indeed very sharp. So, I'm inclined to think that it's from the original negative too. I don't believe that your Myrna Loy photo is from Show of Shows. If I'm remembering correctly, she appeared in the Floradora Girl and Li-Po-Li sequences. Maybe the pirate scene too with Ted Lewis. Any...

Re: Criterion Blu Ray/DVD for the Gold Rush

 There are still a couple shots that seem to be absent. In the Killiam print there is a close-up of the cat running across the dance floor before the sled dog spots him while Charlie and Georgia are tripping the light fantastic. That shot definitely is not there. Also, maybe I missed it someh...

Re: Color from Black-and-White: colorized photos

On this other one, I made Harold's tie red, and tried to give the hair on both of them a little more sheen. Why does it look from this angle as if HL is unbuttoning Constance blouse from the back with his gloved hand? Now, now. Harold is always well-behaved. Here's a new color transfer...

LC, :) Looks good. Although Harold's suit and tie both appear to be green on my monitor? Is that what you wanted? Don't see anything wrong at first glance with Constance skin-tone. Green? That's not what I'm seeing on my monitor. The suit is supposed to be grey and the tie is dark blue. Every monit...

LC, :? Hmm, on my monitor, even his shirt collar is a light green shade. There isn't much diversity. Hm. On second look, the suit and shirt do seem to have taken on slight greenish tint. I wouldn't say a pronounced green, but it's still detectable. We'll just say Harold is celebrating St. Patrick's...

I gladly stand corrected on Norma's tennis balls.
Here's another Movie Crazy photo. I'm not entirely happy with it. I had some problems with Constance's skin tones. Anyway, consider it a work in progress.

Bob, Here is an earlier version of the Keystone Hotel still. The other version posted earlier was inspired by the sometimes loud and garish colors seen in some of the early three-strip Technicolor Warner Bros. shorts. Great work, Caesar! It looks like an original color photo, which is the highest praise I can think of. My only comment is that WC's eyes are too blue (unless he was known for light blue eyes). The Penalty (1920) on Blu Ray 10/23 from Kino

The subject line pretty much says it all. I hope that Kino will offer an alternate musical score for this edition. I remember watching the previous version on TCM several years ago, and I thought that the musical score was about the most inappropriate score for a silent I have ever heard. If there's...
