A Project Proposal: Lipreading and Subtitling Silents
Silent films have inter-titles, of course, but those inter-titles don't always match up with what the actors were saying. For example, in Buster Keaton's film "My Wife's Relations" where the inter-title states "Papa! Shut your eyes and look what I brought home for dinner!" according to the book "Bus...

Looking for Buster Keaton TV show
I was wondering if anyone could help in finding footage from Buster Keaton's tv show from the early 1950s. In particular, I used to have a compilation tape with W.C. Fields, Buster Keaton, and the Three Stooges that had footage from The Buster Keaton Show (or maybe "Life with Buster Keaton"... not s...

Re: Trying to identify a silent
THANK YOU ALL! Haha, that's been bugging me for years
I'm glad I know my silent comedians enough that I at least got the actor right.

Trying to identify a silent
Ok, I remember back in 1995 or 1996 I was watching a documentary about silent films, and they had a clip where they were talking about those elevators used to film someone going up and down vertically (like Buster Keaton going up and down stairs in The Cameraman)... So the clip I am trying to identi...

Re: Keaton
Watch Keaton with at least one other person. I've been a Buster fan for years but never truly laughed out loud until I introduced him to my fiancee one night. I expect our laughter woke up the neighbors
I recommend Seven Chances and Sherlock Jr. for two of his better features.

Re: New Keaton boxed set from KINO
Oh no doubt. Like I said in a previous post, there are indeed jaw-dropping amazing versions contained on this set. I'm being picky on only a few shorts. I'm not trying to stir the pot, believe me. I appreciate all the work and effort that goes into these film restorations. In regards to stabilizatio...

Re: New Keaton boxed set from KINO
The size and position of those screengrab comparisons between the Kino and MOC releases appears to indicate that Kino's film source (or its new transfer) was made using the Academy aperture Yeah that makes sense. If the film just isn't in their source print, then there's nothing they can do about i...

Re: New Keaton boxed set from KINO
Doesn't it appear from your comparison that they picked the version that had quite a bit better print quality, even though it was cropped? Hmm, I see what you are talking about, but my comparison was more looking at framing of Kino's latest transfer, rather than actual quality, since you're looking...

Re: New Keaton boxed set from KINO
I'm about 2/3 through all the material in the Kino blu ray set, and I am still in awe on how crisp these transfers are. Cops in particular. I watched the digitally enhanced version, and you can see everything! It's as clear as Chaplin's later films and beautifully preserved. Oh how I wish all of Kea...

I finally got my Buster blu ray in the mail today!! I can confirm that they fixed that scene with the grayed out subtitle in One Week during the "End of a Perfect Day" gag. It's now cropped properly. Trying to figure out how to screen grab blu-rays :P Will be posting a full review later. Watching On...

I doubt blu-ray will improve the terrible decomposition of that 5 second clip at the end of Hard Luck anyway. But it's more the principle for me. I'm saddened that they didn't/couldn't include all of the scenes in this edition, but I have Keaton Plus so I'm not losing any more than having to swap di...

Here is Ranjit's page - where he presents his case (and some other interesting observations about Keaton's films): http://rjbuffalo.com/missing_buster.html Thank you for sharing this. I've always been fascinated with lost footage and deleted scenes. I only just recently learned all about creating 2...
