I'll watch the Grapevine DVD of Are Parents People? and the Monty Banks short Wedding Bells. Looking forward to it.

Re: WSJ: Erich von Stroheim’s ‘Greed’ (1924): When The Studi
For what it's worth, I read McTeague in college, and Greed is the only example I can think of where I liked the film (cuts and all) much better than the book. Not to say that I wouldn't have loved to see the original if it existed.

Do you have a link to the back issues page? I found classicimages.com but don't see any place to order back issues.

Re: Looking for an affordable region-switchable blu-ray play
I thought these players needed to be hardware converted? I only know about region-free DVD players, but I had to return a model (Philips I think) that wasn't properly advertised on Amazon and wouldn't play PAL. I found one through B and H I think it was that does play PAL and NSTC (DVD only).

Re: TCM To Begin Streaming Service?
I just looked over the site, and since I mainly would be interested in silent films (preferably less well known ones that I might not have seen) I don't see enough at the moment to make me want to sign up. TCM shows silents from time to time, but I don't see that reflected in Filmstruck except for s...

I remember Halloween evening performances by Zacherle over the New York Oldies radio station, WCBS-FM, probably in the 1980s. He was certainly entertaining. RIP

Re: TCM To Begin Streaming Service?
I just looked and it said that Ipad would be supported if it's running iOS 9 (or above I would think).
It looks tempting, I may try it out, though I would like to see whether the silents differ a lot from the ones I get on Fandor.

Re: Jackie Chan wins Oscar
I'm very glad Jackie Chan is being honored as well, but I hope the Academy has the decency to have his presentation live as part of the program. I seem to remember that when they honored Lauren Bacall this way it was not done as part of the live event.

Re: RIP Gene Wilder
I loved him in YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN. I remember one of my college professors talking about it and saying she didn't feel it was necessary to make the film in black and white, but I'm so glad that Wilder and Mel Brooks did.
RIP.
RIP.

Re: TCM Showing "Lucky Star"and "Street Angel" Today
I just watched my recording of Lucky Star and it was fine. I just can't imagine a "part talkie" version however. I can't imagine that surreal, etherial ending playing nearly as well with dialogue. Actually I think that applies to the whole film. Was it one of the last American silents to come out of...

Re: Movie About Clara Bow Being Developed
This money and effort would be better spent preserving Clara's films rather than making a biopic for a public that has no clue who she is. That's also my reaction I'm afraid. If they do go ahead with this, I hope they cast an unknown, I think it would be hard to accept a well known present day star...

Re: Masterpieces You Don't Really Care For
Speaking of "not like the book" I've never liked the 1939 WUTHERING HEIGHTS, simply because I felt they made Heathcliff, as played by Olivier, way too sympathetic. And they left out so much of the story that it felt really incomplete.
