As for the book, am I correct is assuming that you can only purchase it at Cannes?

Wow. Just wow.

The color scenes are fantastic.

David,

Can you actually order a copy of the book anywhere...and will we be able to see the hand-coloured A Trip to the Moon shortly?

Been waiting for this for a long time!!!

Does anybody happen to know which specific reel is the surviving colour one? Just wondering... I'd love to see them, perhaps using that reel as a partial guide, recolourize the whole thing in the original style as was done with the colour scenes in THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA... That might be tough to...

Kind of a tie between - First Men in the Moon (1919) not quite a photoplay novel but there is a detailed story of the film ('bout 20 odd pages?) and some scenes from this lost film. - a copy of the play that spawned Maurice Elvey's High Treason (only 25 printed and the only one that I've ever heard ...

Does anyone have their CDROM? I was thinking about getting it now that it has been reduced to 39.95, but it's only available for PC, unless you install virtual PC on your Mac, which I don't want to do. If you have it, could you give a review? Tks. I've got one and it's excellent. Q. David Bowers ha...

May I humbly add "The Lost World" to this list? Boring, incongrous, impossible to follow. I know it was restored as well as possible by several folks, including David Shepard, but... it just doesn't thrill. Perhaps a new restoratioin will help matters - nahh, a new restoration will just make it lon...

Re: Visions of future transport

Hi, I'm researching films depicting and predicting how urban transport and technology will look like in the future. So far my knowledge extends to 'Metropolis', 'Just Imagine' (1930), 'High Treason' (1929), 'Things to Come' (1936), 'The Tunnel' (1935). If you have any other ideas which would show t...

A serial we're likely never to see (and please, please prove me wrong) is the thirty episode "picturized novel" THE DIAMOND FROM THE SKY, directed by Jacques Jaccard, Irving Cummings and William Desmond Taylor. The prints went all over the world in 1915-16 but not a one seems to have survived(?) On...

" The Victor Herbert music survives (in fact, some has been released on CD). "

I have that CD and I'll gladly concede that the music from Fall is good stuff.

Why would anyone put Fall of a Nation on this list? It's not really much of a sequel to Birth of Nation. If the idea is to have a WWI themed fantasy film, why not A Battle Cry of Peace or possibly even The Nation's Peril. Or...for that matter the entire footage to Civilization? I don't get that one ...

Wow. A lot of differing opinions which, of course, will happen. I think E of E is just fine of what I've viewed (6 episodes)...lot's of good wackiness. Officer 444, on the other hand, did nothing for me & the only lasting impression that I have are images of O 444's gang in the police wagon whizzing...

I sometimes zone out re-watching a film after several goings and, I guess, occasionally switch inadvertently into listen mode.

But what I can really relate to is, as someone mentioned, listening to a CD soundtrack and visualizing the film.

Fwiw, I believe that the Russian sci fi film Luch Smerti ("The Death Ray") uses kind of a folding swastika as a secret symbol of some sort.

I just saw it today and, to be honest, it was a bit of a disappointment. There's little (if anything) more than what's listed on the website: "In addition to the Casablanca Oscar and Plummer’s costume from The Sound of Music, the exhibit will feature a dress worn by Vivien Leigh inGone with the Wind...

Based upon a discussion on another board, I think that we may be able to add another title. It's based on Moreau and called L'ile d'Epouvante a.k.a. The Island of Terror. Released in 1913 but filmed earlier, apparently.

2) Gustav Fröhlich's acting did not bother me so much this time. Perhaps it was the magnification of everything around him when projected on the big screen. Perhaps it was that now, with all the additional footage, he comes off more as an action hero and less of a callow youth. ***Saw it just today...
