What Did You Get in the Criterion Flash Sale?
This was my first flash sale and I grabbed the following: The Hidden Fortress - blind Videodrome - blind The Uninvited Carnival of Souls - blind Seven Samurai - blind His Girl Friday - blind Modern Times A whole lot of blind buys in there, but I'm fairly certain I'll really enjoy them. So what did y...

Re: 9th Annual "Watch That Movie Night" is January 27!
Over the weekend, I took a little left turn from my initial thought and instead watched Lloyd's The Kid Brother (1927). I definitely enjoyed it, and it was more of an adventure-type movie than I was expecting. The film was filled with all sorts of fun scenes, but I especially enjoyed the part on the...

Re: The devil in vintage film
It's only available from bootleg sources on eBay and Etsy, since it is still copyrighted by Paramount. There is a review of one at silentera.com , and the picture quality is abysmal. For some reason, the IMDB added this title to Raymond Griffith's filmography, presumably because he shares a last na...

Anyone know offhand if THE SORROWS OF SATAN is commercially available? I did a quick Google search, but half of the sites are blocked here.

I'll join the Keaton theme and will watch Steamboat Bill, Jr. Unless I get tempted by another fine film from the unwatched pile.

Re: The 2017 Silent Movies Calendar
I picked up my last printing of calendars yesterday, and sent out all of the pending orders. I now have about 20 left. Once those are gone, the 2017 calendar will be officially out of print. So, if you haven't gotten around to ordering yours, do it this week. So far we've raised over $1800 for the ...

Re: What is the last film you watched? (2016)
I recently watched Sons of the Desert (1933), which I absolutely loved. I'm now starting to work my way through the L&H collection on DVD, and I also watched Unaccustomed As We Are (1929), which was supposedly their first talkie. The sound was serviceable, but pretty bad.

I am slowly working my way through the old Universal classic monster films, and I recently watched Werewolf of London (1935), Dracula's Daughter (1936), Son of Frankenstein (1939) and the Wolf Man (1941). Son of Frankenstein was my favorite of the bunch, and I really enjoyed Bela Lugosi as Ygor.

Re: Which Phantom to show to a newbie?
You might want to throw in Son of Frankenstein since some of the elements of that film are satirized in Young Frankenstein (along with the original Frankenstein and The Bride of F.) I just watched Son of Frankenstein over the weekend, and this is excellent advice. :D Have fun with all of those grea...

I recently watched The Prisoner of Zenda (1937), Room Service (1938) and The Road to Hong Kong (1962).
I really enjoyed Zenda, and I'll have to track down some other films with the cast members. If you have not had the pleasure, Zenda is highly recommended!
