Thanks! I figured that might be the case, since I believe Baum's son was involved with the film.Roscoe wrote:"Unfortunately the writer went to the George Lucas school of naming people, using names Prince Kynd and Prime Minister Kruel."
Those character names are actually from the Oz books, as I remember.

Re: Post your Holiday Wish List & Win Flicker Alley Titles 2
I'm hoping for my own collection of The House of Mystery.
I already bought myself the new Chaplin set from Flicker Alley, so I played Santa a little early.

Re: What's The Last Silent Movie You Watched?
As for me, last night I watched The Wizard of Oz (1925). As an Oz movie, the film fell very flat, considering they didn't spend any quality time in Oz until half the movie was over. Taking Oz out of the equation, the film wasn't too bad, and the special effects and stunts were done very well for the...

Re: What is the last film you watched? (2015)
I intentionally watched two very similar films over the long weekend: George Washington Slept Here (1942) and Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (1948). I enjoyed them both and they both had very solid casts, but I was pleasantly surprised to see Percy Kilbride appear in the first film. I should p...

Re: What is the last film you watched? (2015)
Over the weekend I watched my gateway to old films: The Old Dark House (1932), which is a favorite of mine. I also watched The Wolf Man (1941), as I'm slowly working my way through the giant Universal set I received a month ago. And last night we watched The Hunger Games: The Mockingjay Part 1 (2014...

Re: Disastrous "Old Movie" dating experiences
My father-in-law subjected my wife to far too many silent films long before I met her, so she is a lost cause on that front. If it's not relatively new, she isn't biting.
But every now and again she'll keep me company (by losing herself in her phone) whilst I watch a classic phone or two.

Re: What is the last film you watched? (2015)
My wife grabbed the recent Vacation (2015) movie to watch with the family. Thankfully she took my advice and we watched it without the kiddos, as it was far too inappropriate for their young years. It wasn't quite the train wreck that I thought it would be, and had a few laugh out loud moments for m...

After we watched One Frightened Night (1935) for my father-in-law's happy 79th birthday, we watched the first three Chaplin Mutuals: The Floor Walker, The Fireman, and The Vagabond. We enjoyed them all, but I think The Fireman was the winner of the bunch. Can't wait to watch the rest of them.

Re: What is the last film you watched? (2015)
I recently watched The Vampire Bat (1933), which was fairly comical, especially what the blood was being used for. And last night, for my father-in-law's happy 79th birthday, we watched One Frightened Night (1935) as well as a few Chaplin Mutual shorts. One Frightened Night was solid pseudo "o...

I finally got around to watching the 1931 English and Spanish versions of Dracula, back-to-back.
Next up is Nosferatu, then I'll move on to another subject...maybe the Wolf Man. Still need to sneak in a view of The Old Dark House, as well.

What are some of your favorite/iconic silent film posters?
Hello all,
We are in the midst of decorating our movie room, and I'd like to add some film posters to help spruce up the place. As such, I'd appreciate hearing what some of your favorites are, so please feel free to share the pics here or link to them as appropriate.
Thanks in advance!
Dave

I watched Spione (1928) over several sittings, which I think really detracted from the film. My fault, of course, and I'd like to see it again when I can give it the attention it seems to deserve.

Having disc in hand (or on the way) is probably a good call, since we already have the "last movie you watched" threads which is probably a better place to mention streams etc.

I recently watched Dr. Who and the Daleks (1965). I enjoyed Peter Cushing, but they didn't seem to use him as much as I was expecting. The Daleks were very hard to understand, which didn't help matters.

Re: Flicker Alley Sherlock Holmes 1916 Blu-ray
At the risk of dragging us back on topic, how does this film stack up compared to other vintage Sherlock releases? I'm definitely curious about it from a historical perspective, but that isn't enough (for me) to pre-order it. Maybe I'll wait until some of the early reviews come in and go from there.

Re: What's The Last Silent Movie You Watched?
Over the weekend I watched the four silent Laurel & Hardy shorts that were on TCM a week or two ago. I don't remember all of the titles, but I do remember You're Darn Tootin' and Big Business. I'd love it if their silent works were released as a new selection!
