Re: The Charle Chaplin Archives - cheaper edition

The thing that bothers me in the Taschen smaller sized editions is that the first thing they eliminate are fill page photos and double page spreads. I guess they take up too much room. And those big pictures are usually the best pictures in the book. I've also noticed that even when the page count ...

Re: TASCHEN sale of Movie books

They overdid it on the Tati book. It's too much and too... obtuse a format. (Hard to describe.) I have the box myself and there are great things in it, but it is just too big a footprint on the shelf. I have no problem with the size, but it was split into format (screenplays, stills, interviews) ra...

Re: TASCHEN sale of Movie books

Would love to see a Taschen book on Cocteau's films. I would love to see a lot more film books from TASCHEN but it looks https://nitrateville.com/index.phplike they are concentrating on worldwide brands - Star Wars, Disney, James Bond, Kubrick. Well there's a Tati volume so one can hope! But sadly ...

Yes, I'm always busy - working on my own personal projects at the moment since publishing has slowed down due to reduced sales during the pandemic.

Re: TASCHEN sale of Movie books

This is a shop display and slightly damaged stock/stock clearance. They have different stock in each country, so Hitchcock in UK but not in US; Chaplin in US, but not in UK, et cetera... They sometimes add flash sales/titles each day across the whole catalog (they have art, comics, photography and m...

Thanks! The book is available from Amazon worldwide (CA, DE, FR, ES, IT, JP) but only in English.

I should also mention that I made the book in colour, but it is printed in black and white since color is far too expensive POD.

Re: The Charlie Chaplin Archives - Blatant Book Plug

Taschen always releases their books in different sizes. The Magic book you bought is much bigger and has many more pages than the one they are selling now. They'll probably release a $40 version of the Chaplin book next= half the size and missing most of the full page pictures. TASCHEN publish smal...

Do you have Chaplin comic strip Pa's Imported Son-In-Law?

Washington_Herald_Sun__May_9__1915_.jpg "A Return Engagement of Pa's Imported Son in Law" was a 1915-1916 Sunday full page colour comic strip that featured a silent actor chappie named "Charlie Chapman" - although we know and love him as "Chaplin". He appeared in about 40 strips. Always silent. The...

Just gotta add, the "Autochrome" shot of the Tramp on p. 156 is absolutely stunning. Would be perfect as a poster. Yes, there are actually four colour shots by Zoller. Two by the lamp, and two in front of the studio, but this is by far the best. You can see the others here, and there's also a shot ...

Here is a post I wrote earlier this year describing the making of the film, noting that newspaper stories at the time reported on the unplanned midair crash during the making of the film, listing the name of the pilot and stuntman, thereby making it obvious it wasn't Houdini. Great article on the f...
