Peeping Tom

On a British film site of which I am a member there is a controversy regarding this famous Michael Powell film. Now most people refer to this ,as a horror film. However one Powell fan calls it a psychological thriller.I would like to know the views of people here.Which word best described it?

Re: USC to Remove John Wayne Exhibit

The more I read about Wayne the more despicable I find him to be.His work as President of the Motion Picture Alliance deprived many of their livelihood.
I would mention that the statue of Cecil Rhodes has been taken down from Rhodes College Oxford

Pathe promoted their 9.5mms gauge with the Pathescope library. They also introduced optical sound. They did 45 minute cut down of British Lion films. The edited versions survived the full version did not due to bombing in the war.

Re: Sky adds "content warnings" on many classic movies

Talking Pictures TV have been doing this for 2 years as the regulator received a complaint about something in a film they showed. So now virtually every film is prefaced by a warning about outdated atttudes.Sensible self protection.

Just finished reading Prince of Drones. He was very much involved with invention of drones.
It was a big surprise to discover that his career suffered at the coming of sound.Apparently since he had a screen character similar to Harold Lloyd they expected him to speak with an American accent.

Re: Una Merkel: The Actress with Sassy Wit and Southern Charm

The book is readable. However there are faults.Too many plots are set out and dialogue recited.Furthermore characteristics of the part she is playing are attributed to her.
Given she left no close relatives it has to be a scissors and paste job.

Re: How/When did Silent Films start losing their credibility?

I would doubt that British Cinemas were showing silent films in 1940.What it could be is a film used to entertain the troops or maybe evacuated schoolchildren in World War 2.That would tie in with the date of 1940 on the leader.

The Singing Fool was not all talking,it was a musical with some talking sequences. It was a smash hit.It was reigning no 1 at the box office till GWTW took over in 1939. Lights Of New York, was I believe the first all talking film.Everyone grouped round the Mike in the phone enunciating every syllable...

Re: How/When did Silent Films start losing their credibility?

Here in the UK silent films were still being played into the early thirties. This was because some cinemas could not afford the cost of conversion to sound. However by the early thirties they would all close down.
