Re: Greed (Von Stroheim) Any News on Home Media Releases
No news at present. THE BIG PARADE didn't do well for Warner, so I wouldn't look for a blu anytime soon. I think the Warner Archive is the best bet for this title, not on blu but MOD DVD. Of course, even their silent output has been trailing off recently.........

Re: Honorary Oscars
I've been miffed since the Academy took the special awards off the menu for the regular broadcast and made them part of the Governors' awards. Of course, I lost a lot of respect for the honorary awards when they started giving them out to just anyone (Steve Martin.......Steve Martin??).

News keeps getting better! Hope they get around to some of the late 30's and early 40's serials.

Re: Olive Films: Republic serials
Yes, Paramount acquired the catalog thru Viacom's purchase of Aaron Spelling's assets. He acquired them when he bought NTA. Olive has released several of the 3 MESQUITEER series--but I think only the ones costarring John Wayne. Olive was quick to completely mine Republic's Wayne films. They also rec...

Olive Films: Republic serials
Olive Films have announced the release of FLYING DISC MAN FROM MARS (1950), a 12 chapter Republic serial, to Blu Ray on 10/27/2015! We have been pressing Olive about the Republic serials since the early days of their partnership with Paramount, who owns the Republic catalogue. This first release is ...

Re: Kino Bluray PHANTOM OF THE OPERA October 13
I always understood the "pulldown" used on NOSFERATU was just a simple conforming job that resulted in every 3rd frame being repeated, which caused the jerky playback. I'll have to revisit my disc and step through a few scenes again. Didn't realize they actually dropped frames! Looking forward to th...

Re: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND (1929)
I recently caught this on Warner Archive Instant channel (Roku). I really didn't expect much, but it more than held my interest. I was particularly impressed by some of the production values and ideas/themes. It was also surprising in that there were more talkie sequences than expected, knowing that...

Re: "Murder!" (1930) Hitchcock - DVD?
For Region 1, Lionsgate issued the StudioCanal/"official British versions" of early Hitchcock films on a 3-DVD set several years ago (2007) which includes MURDER. The set really didn't make a big market splash, but remains available through Amazon and several other retailers (as low as $12). It has ...

Re: 80th Anniversary Celebration of Republic Pictures
Agree about the service Olive is providing. I have emailed them on several occasions, expressing my gratitude. I, too, would like to see the Republic serials released. For the most part, they are in excellent condition (or at least were) as seen on previous VHS and laserdisc releases. Each time I co...
