Tyrone Power the movie star got his looks from the mother's side of the family. In some photos, she looks like Tyrone with a woman's wig. His son, Ty Power, Jr., actually looks a lot like his dad in person. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4003/4427090949_b5e53ce260_o.jpg The genes are very strong whe...

box sets

There are two Tyrone Power box sets. The first one sold so well that the studio rushed out a second set a year later. Both are still selling, and selling very well.

The reason there is a second Alice Faye set is that the first Alice Faye set outsold the Betty Grable set.

I think TCM finally got the message about Tyrone - they included him in their Leading Pairs book after leaving him out of their leading men book and today they're having a birthday tribute to him, which is astonishing, since most of the time they pretend he doesn't exist. I've long been aware that p...

I absolutely love TCM. I have no problem with them it trying to sell DVDs or anything else, I'm for anything that introduces classic film to people and provides a place for fans to watch it. My problem is that as a film historian, I resent them presenting things as if they are history rather than wh...

Re: That Warners documentary...

Turner Classic Movies, which started as a way to make some money off the library of old films owned by Turner Entertainment, has turned into a veritable public service, providing the only serious venue on television for the great films, and has done a tremendous job of promoting the Warner Bros. ou...

First of all, I need to apologize if I sounded indignant; I am a writer by profession and tend to write strongly. After working so closely with Fox, the statement surprised me is all. I understand about the situation in Canada - I think it might depend on the exposure to certain celebrities, which w...

Sales of box sets

I want to know why you say Tyrone Power sets aren't selling. I worked on both sets, and the response to the first set was so huge, they rushed out the second set of ten movies in a year. I was recently at a tribute in LA for him that was packed to the gills, and Fox is very happy with the second set...

Hi, my first post never materialized. I took issue with the statement that Tyrone Power's box sets aren't selling. I don't know where that impression came from. The first set sold so well that Fox rushed out a second set a year later. Both sets are still selling, and on some sites, at full price. I ...

This is my second post - although my first post hasn't shown up yet. I wouldn't use price cuts as an example of sets that aren't selling. Since I worked on the Power set, I can tell you that it went into several pressings at full or Amazon-type price, to the astonishment of Fox. Amazon discounted it...
