You wanna know my biggest complaint? Is every year about a month before Cinecon there always seems to be a royal bitch fest about what's wrong with the show. Well, if you could bother to get a schedule published a little sooner than a few weeks before the show, we could bitch about it earlier! RICH...

Donna, how much does an Intellectual Property attorney charge per hour? If you want a Carl Davis score on everything, then commission him to write and conduct scores and hire the musicians and the recording studio, and pay for the zillion and one other expenses that go into putting together an orch...

ONE HYSTERICAL NIGHT survives. Universal preserved it and we showed it at Cinecon a couple of years ago...though the general consensus was that it should have stayed lost. Mike S. I defy you to do so. http://rosscards.com/HartChevalier.gif Believe it or not, Hart and Chevalier were great friends, and apparently made up a triumverate with Rudy Vallee, but then again, it makes sense that three of the tightest guys in Hollywood with a buck should have been great friends. I have collected silent film autograph for more than 20 years and have never encountered a Max Schreck signature on a photo, letter or even a contract. I don't even know what one looks like. He is one the most elusive autograph for collectors. Murnau is also very rare but at least collectors know w...

The hell it isn't. "Art" is not "Art" without some sort of inherent message involved, as well as genuine craft. It is the high end of the meeting point between the two. Allright. I was just watching an old, scratchy print of "Road To Mandalay" that clocked in at around 47 minutes. This can't be the whole film. Does anyone know what part of the story is missing? This would look so good all cleaned up and scored. Danny You're looking at all that survives on THE ROAD TO MANDAL...

It's watching a lot of Chaplin's fine, empty comedies, lots of stuff where what he is trying to say is lost in the gagwork or he has nothing to say except "this is funny" and then you reach the last line of CITY LIGHTS. Breaking into an exceedingly pointless conversation....... Okay Lipton, you've ...

Jon does a great job at Cinecon. The best score that I've heard from him was Don Q, Son of Zorro on my one visit to the Niles Silent Film Museum. A true test of an accompanist is having to play for a long, dull silent film. I've seen Phil do that several times at Cinecon. Phil can do a great score ...

I checked around, and the King Baggott version of DR JEKYLL AND MR HYDE is actually at UCLA, and they do have a loanable print in 35mm. With the Chase Columbias getting some attention lately, I've rewatched a bunch of them recently - they do occasionally get a bad rap, which I think is unfounded.
