Re: Slim Summerville

He also had a short stint filling in for Joseph Murphy as Andy Gump in Andy Takes a Flyer 1925 when Murphy had a contract dispute. He might also have appeared as Gump in Andy in Hollywood 1925, both lost and probably not the most memorable Gump short comedies based on their reviews. I just posted a ...

Re: Nyet! Russian film archive Gosfilmfond and films repatriated to US Library of Congress

Great list. @10% of all of the silent films ever made. The distributor had good taste in films. Wonder which of the Timber Queen chapters are there as there are very few of the overall 15 chapters that Ruth Roland made. Ucla has a couple of them, I have 2 that are readily available, but intriguing o...

Re: What's The Last Silent Movie You Watched? [2019]

I am currently viewing the restoration of Smoke Bellew 1929 with french intertitles. Avatar to the left is from this film. Huge thrill to finally see this restoration which was at the time was a much cheaper version of the wonderful drama The Trail of 98. The Chilkoot Trail scenes in Smoke Bellew ar...

Re: Nyet! Russian film archive Gosfilmfond and films repatriated to US Library of Congress

There may be a lot of supporters of kickstarters even without a musical score.

Scores are always wonderful , but just seeing the silent film for the first time is motivation itself.

Re: Nyet! Russian film archive Gosfilmfond and films repatriated to US Library of Congress

If you look at an example of repatriation 10 years later, a good example is New Zealand Archives (Nga Taonga). The few films in the case of repatriation (see link below) that are awaiting restoration, may definitely be funding and availability of archive staff or perhaps the archive has agenda on wh...

Re: News paper serializations of The Unholy 3 and Phantom of the Opera?

Darren, I counted overall at least 25 different papers for Unholy3 and @ 10 for Phantom (@ 1930). Most often in LA Times, Ny Times, SF examiner for Unholy 3 and for Phantom primarily LA Times and the Standard Union brooklyn ny (@ 1926). Subscription for newspapers is pretty reasonable cost if you do...

Re: The Patriot (1928) Sound

Interesting. I sure would like to see the crude sound systems (movietone , rca , etc.) that they used to record sound and then the exact process that they used to put the sound on the film.

Not via references but with my own eyes.

Re: The Patriot (1928) Sound

Silent era.com has some details on this title if accurate. The site mentions sound effects and some talking dialog. Not sure if 2.5 k feet of excerpts at UCLA or if the portion from Portugal has any sound of any kind or are the only portions that exist of the 9 reel original silent version or the fr...

Re: White Renegade 1931 aka Empire Builders

Hi Bert, Since I was always a big fan of Franey, Hamilton, Santschi, and others in the film (hence the reason for the research), the 1931 release info that I read tried to portray it as a suspenseful drama with similar fight scenes that you would see in a later film Ten Nights in a Bar Room 1931 (fi...

White Renegade 1931 aka Empire Builders

In my research to determine the exact role that Mark Hamilton had in the film White Renegade 1931, I found a whole host of photos on a New Mexico Historical Society site. Although the film is lost, the 104 still photos that the society has gives a very good representation of the entire film and it's...

Josh,

Don't feel bad. I used tiny pics for a few years for most of my photos on this site and now they are no more and the photos cannot be accessed at all.

If I can remember my flickr password , I am switching back to that site for upload purposes.

The intertitle juxtaposition to the frames with the character I assume is Mrs. Renov sure looks like Tashman to me.
