May Irwin is an ancestor of mine. She was a Canadian and came from fine Methodist stock. But she was considered a black sheep and was written out of my family history. Anyone know what original film elements survive from this film? Used for the various restorations?
Do the original negs survive or are they derived from DeMille's personal prints?

Re: new DVD - LON CHANEY: BEFORE THE THOUSAND FACES
I wish more Universal films from this era survived. The scant few that I've seen are above par in visuals and story line. The films on the LON CHANEY: BEFORE THE THOUSAND FACES are no exception.
Even with missing footage they are still fun to watch.

Re: Nitrate Laurel & Hardy print on eBay
That's the seller. The prints went to two different bidders. The Big Business print went for $787.77, which is kind of ridiculous considering this short was fully preserved by LoC and this particular print is missing about a whopping 2.5 minutes. Most, if not all, of these prints will be from forei...

1. If the experts on this site feel the image quality for the 6 films (one of them is 16mm) exceeds that of other known copies, here is what I propose. 2. Mr Nemeth sends me a PM telling which films he will be bidding on, and his top bid for each. 3. Then, I will, within my limited means, add to hi...

Publishing screen caps in print. How to properly give credit?
I am printing a book early next year and part of it will show examples of how stage magic influenced some early films. A few screen caps from DVDs will be used. All of the films are from the 1890s - 1910s and public domain. For example "Humorous Phases of Funny Faces" (1906). How to I give proper cr...
