I also liked Constance in The Primitive Lover.

The storyline for Her Sister from Paris was tweaked for Constance Bennett in Moulin Rouge and Greta Garbo in Two-Faced Woman.

HER SISTER FROM PARIS (1925)

Constance Talmadge stars here in a dual role: the unhappy wife and her vivacious sister who happens to be a famous dancer. The story opens with Talmadge and husband (Ronald Colman) having a marital spat. They are bored with each other and she drives away to go home to mother. Colman gets consolation...

The pages were on my computer at work (long story) when the hard drive crashed and burned. Nothing was recoverable and as it wasn't my drive, the options were limited. I did find a previous version of 27 pages (sigh) which I had to have scanned off a 3-inch disk (long story) into a word file. So at ...

Actually I don't think I've seen Cortez as a latin lover. He's played leading men as in Torrent with Greta Garbo but nothing I consider in the Valentino mold. In The Pony Express, which I just saw, he played Frisco Jack. A quickie look at his characters names (IMDb) in silent films shows only a hand...

IT HAPPENED IN HOLLYWOOD (1937)

Just watched this gentle film co-written by Sam Fuller and part of a new DVD set. A look at the Hollywood revolution from silent films to talkies, Richard Dix stars as an easy-going cowboy star who flops on this talkie test and is relegated to the has-been heap while his sagebrush co-star (Fay Wray)...

In Heart o' the Hills Pickford is a "night-rider" trying to drive the mine company out of the hills. If I remember right, she does use the shotgun on someone..... but only after a violent barn dance scene with a very young John Gilbert! Only an actress as remarkable as Pickford could get away with a...

I have Lorna Doone but have not watched it yet. Pride of the Clan is a very odd film for Mary Pickford, notable for her use of a whip.

Also notable in Mohicans is the score by R.J. Miller, which I know I've heard on other silent film tracks.... at least in portions.

Tourneur was involved in an accident and the film was completed by Clarence Brown. It's impossible to tell. There's no obvious break in style or vision. The version I have is beautifully tinted, and the use of location (Big Bear Lake and Yosemite) is a worthy substitute for what should have been ups...
