Re: DVD Release of new L & H UCLA/LOC restorations

Yep I see it too. If you go back to around the 13:01 minute mark you can see it in context where it belongs. It's just after Arthur Houseman falls down the stairs. Got a question for those of you who, like myself, purchased this 4 disc set on blu-ray. In my set on blu-ray Disc 3, within the 2-reele...

Yes, I also have a Blackhawk 16mm print. And it is very much still in copyright, as is Roach's wonderful A PAIR OF TIGHTS (also in When Comedy Was King).

SPAWN OF THE NORTH is wonderful. Once again, however, Tiomkin's score was tinkered with and portions (including the final cue) were rescored by W. Franke Harling. The difference is startling.

Just FYI, DVDFab11 handles blu-ray. I use it for extracting footage. And it has a preview function that actually plays the blu ray disc. This is in Windows 10.

British actor James Hayter dubbed Eduardo Ciannelli in HELEN OF TROY. Hayter co-starred the year before in Warners' LAND OF THE PHARAOHS.

Bob - I have 16mm prints of two complete NBC Television concerts - The Brahms program and the first Wagner program. These are complete with Ben Grauer's announcements and interludes. I was not thrilled with the way RCA "PBS-ized" the concerts when they released them on tape/laser/dvd. Ben Grauer WAS...

Re: TOSCANINI - THE MAESTRO REVISITED

My next project will be to reconstruct THIS WAS TOSCANINI. It's a CBS CAMERA THREE program adapted from Samuel Antek's book, narrated by William Prince. I have a B&W kinescope (it was produced on early video tape) so I'm going to redo the visual using the book as CBS did and the original soundtrack...

Roach's IT'S A GIFT

Can someone please identify this Roach player for me? He's in a bunch of shorts including as the Postman in IT'S A GIFT. Someone at IMDB listed him as Eddie Dunn. Nope. I'd like to correct that error. Many thanks!

TOSCANINI - THE MAESTRO REVISITED

I recently bought an original negative and had a new 16mm color print struck of the 1967 special TOSCANINI - THE MAESTRO REVISITED.

Today I ran it through my telecine and uploaded it to Vimeo. For fans of the Maestro here it is:

Re: PHANTOM OF THE OPERA - A Universal Edition

Thanks for the feedback. The logo music was in keeping with the Skinner/Salter scoring. The sound effects were a carryover from my 8mm and betamax versions. I'm incurable. As for the titles, I'm not sure if you've seen the latest upload but I did change the title effect (closer to '29 optical). As f...

Re: The Plough and the Stars (1936) - Director's Cut?

I have a 16mm print of the educational reissue. That is when the newsreel footage and narration was added - sometime in the 1960's. I first saw the original RKO release back in the 70's on the local PBS channel. 35mm print. AMC ran it back in the 90's (the original RKO version from 35mm) and I manag...

There are plenty of tents still operating. Our tent in Ellenville - THEM THAR HILLS - is in its 11th season. Of course, we're not meeting right now so I'm posting our film programs online, including the toasts. Here's our April program: https://vimeo.com/401197235/05ba29d035 [vimeo]http://vimeo.com/...

Wow! Trailer for 100 MEN AND A GIRL! That's a revelation. I hope the soundtrack won't have its life EQ'd out of it like the Universal DVD. This film was Universal's first soundtrack recorded in multi-channel for proper balance in mixing. It's a magnificent soundtrack and should be heard without the ...

Well, having had no reaction to it I'm not really inspired to upload a file for download. I realize this is a very singular approach - especially the scoring - when folks have become so used to the more pondersome accompaniments of recent years.
