PHANTOM OF THE OPERA - A Universal Edition

Over 30 years ago I did a 25/29 reconstruction on my trusty Betamax. Here is my 2020 digital version with music by Skinner, Salter and Gounod. YouTube rejected it because of the music so I've uploaded to Vimeo.

Vitaphone Sennett retreads question

I recently bought a print of Warners' HAPPY TIMES AND JOLLY MOMENTS, a 1942 compilation of Mack Sennett bits narrated by Lou Marcelle. However, someone spliced into the print about a minute from an entirely different Warners Sennett retread, this one narrated by Benny Rubin. I have prints or info on...

Re: Studio Logos for Desktop

Yes, I was very worried about Windows 10 but I've adapted well (mostly by disabling all the dummy stuff). AND I found Word Perfect X9 which is a perfect replacement for WP 6.1. Hallelujah!

Glad you liked the images.

I made up a bunch of studio logos formatted for 1366x768 with the left side shaded/reserved for icons. I used them for my desktop background slideshow. If interested, here's a link to a zip file of the group: http://www.chelsearialtostudios.com/studio_logos_desktop.zip Here's a reduced version of on...

Don't forget Arthur Kennedy's concerto in CITY FOR CONQUEST (1940). Of course, that one had the benefit of being composed by Korngold.

Steiner. "Magic Isle Symphony". Written the year after his "Symphony Moderne" for FOUR WIVES.

Hollywood Chorus Boy

Can anybody identify this regular chorus boy who appeared in many pictures? Here he is in BORN TO DANCE, YANKEE DOODLE DANDY, and HOLD THAT GHOST.

PS it's not Shep Houghton or Jeffrey Sayre.

Thanks!

Re: FOX FILM RESTORATIONS at MOMA!

I have a complete Universal print of THE BOYS FROM SYRACUSE (most of the early TV prints were from the Realart negative with title deletions). I'm afraid Universal's rights to the property expired decades ago and the film is in legal limbo. It's a Mayfair production, like HELLZAPOPPIN', and the prod...

I just picked up a beautiful printdown of ONE EXCITING WEEK, a 1946 Republic directed by Beaudine. It's nice to see Beaudine do a picture with a first-rate cast and classy production values. This is a VERY funny film with hilarious bits by Pinky Lee and Shemp Howard.

Sid Fields was also a second banana on THE JACKIE GLEASON SHOW (The American Scene Magazine). I think the earliest film I've seen him in is STRIKE ME PINK (1936). He worked with Bud & Lou in burlesque and radio and appeared in IN SOCIETY (though his scene was deleted) and LITTLE GIANT (he replaced E...

I have a beautiful print of OUT ALL NIGHT with Slim and Zasu Pitts. It co-stars Laura Hope Crews in a role that can only be described as a send-up of her Broadway role in THE SILVER CORD, the film version of which was released after OUT ALL NIGHT. Very funny picture!

Curtiz was the original director on THEY DIED WITH THEIR BOOTS ON. He and Flynn got into a fist fight and Curtiz was replaced by Raoul Walsh. Unless there is an account given by someone who was on the set, any other details would be speculative.

For me, the best Site-specific punchline will always be in SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SHERIFF. Producer James Garner had long worked for Bill Orr at Warner Bros. Television. As an actor he felt shackled and abused. But he got even when he made SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SHERIFF! http://www.chelsearialtostudios.com/...

STRANGE CARGO 1929 Pathe. 16mm print struck in 1937 from 35mm negative. This was Pathe's first all-talkie. Cast includes Lee Patrick, Ned Sparks and Russell Gleason. Murder mystery with Hindu overtones takes place aboard private yacht. Best performance was by Frank Reicher, who can read anything and...

My sister lived in Claude Binyon's house across the street from the Korngold house. There was a framed map inside of all the residents who belonged to Lakeside. She has since moved to Napa. But I got much of Claude's book collection, including a complete set of Burns Mantle.

Re: Best of Pete Smith Specialties Volume 1

What about THIRD DIMENSIONAL MURDER? Even though it was a "Pete Smith Metroscopix Special" it is still one of the more interesting of the earlier shorts (1941). Have any of the Metroscopix shorts been released as extras on DVD?
