Re: Nearly complete Ozu film from prewar silent era discover

Many Japanese films were shown in Japanese theaters in Hawaii over the decades and there is a book on these places with film posters. I assume there were a lot of Japanese in Hawaii at the time). Ignoring the climatic conditions in Hawaii, I wonder what happened to the prints as they finished their ...

Not so if it had been videotape as many a flooded TV station basement in USA have found to their horror.

And Grapevine Video put out a copy on DVD in the last couple of years. I believe that the NFSA Blu Ray is BD-R, not replicated. I knew the man who said he found the film dumped in Sydney, I met him at the Australian Film Institute in the 1970s and he worked for the SAFC who I sold material to then a...

That Vitaphone audioless list sort of matches the number German features that are said to be completely lost and no mention of what shorts they no longer had. Different reasons, though, then Vitaphone. Somewhere in the middle of USA some many years ago(1970s) was a huge warehouse with 78s and it wen...

Outside of Bitter Sweet(UK 1933) the other handful films he is said to be in have not surfaced on DVD, not that this has either although I had the film on 16mm. Bowlly is listed as Singer and I believe early in the film you see his hands on his guitar in the Lew Stone Orchestra as the camera does a ...

I enjoyed that track. Tragically, I had and also sold to customers all the Japanese resissue LPs of Canaro but lost them or they disappeared after I had a serious fire in my storage area in May 1997. Australia did have a state by state Censorship board until modern times. I used to own a Super8mm sound print-down of a one-reel Lee DeForest Phonofilm that featured the Broadway cast of "Show Boat". I can't find any reference to it online, but I did own a copy of it at one time. The film consisted of some silent shots of two or three men sitting in the audience of the ...

There was a srory circulating around years ago that the RKO (successor to F.B.O.) vault guy supplemented his income by sending the F.B.O. films to silver reclamation.
