Czech is a Serbo-Coat type known as West Slav language and not like Hungarian(Magyar) which is like no other European language but some of the best filmmakers from the pioneer days had a Magyar speaking background. The Czech language was known as Bohemian until about the 1800s and is similar to the ...

I am happy to say that in the past couple of hours Amazon has buzzed me that they have shipped "Bill" & the "Lost" Shorts in the one package from my pre-orders. Within 12 days or less I will be able to enjoy these and grateful they have done them. Look forward to the others when they come out. One t...

Whilst WW Young was listed as director of the 1915 Alice in Wonderland, he does not appear to be the well-known Waldemar Young who died in 1938. None of Waldemar's titles in the 1920s match those titles mentioned. Most of Waldemar Young's listed scripts in the 1930s are available to buy on DVD & I h...

I can agree with Richard's remarks about Metrocolor turning out good quality prints. I bought a legitimate 16mm print of Alan Freed's Rock, Rock, Rock. This had proper text Metrocolor on the leaders and was a perfect print. Black & white yes but it gave me a good idea of their work. I guess they had...

This film was one of the first MGM package collection shown on CH7 Melbourne when they got the c700 film package rights minus GWTW(at the time). They showed this, I think, in their Friday night Academy Theatre slot at the time in black & white as we had to wait until about 1973 for color. Some peopl...

Until end of business on June 30 2010 DeepDiscount have a up to 55% off sale of WB Archive Collection. This means a $40 set is $18 and a $30 disc is $13.98. However they are basing the single DVD price on $30rrp not their usual $19.39 price so those prices are just below their $14.54 25MORE sale jus...

It seems that IMDB, who has a lengthy article about Eva van Berne, does list this lady as having died in 1930 from excessive dieting. They also list her being born in Sarajevo which is listed as being in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1910. Eva is a name that is common in Hungary but who is this person t...

Penfold: You are right re longevity of British Cinematographers, but, sadly, this is not altogether true of many excellent British comedians & comic actors, some who have died on stage or in their dressing rooms and at least one suicide thrown in(Tony Hancock in Australia).

Of course it makes sense to look for a Region Free Blu Ray at this point in time. It might be one that you key in a code for the Blu Ray each time you want to view in a different region for a disc but the DVD part is usually region Free and best left unaltered. Surprised that now there is such talk(...

Try this: Thames did not go un der. They lost their right to broadcast TV in the London area in contract/licence renewals, something peculiar to UK. Those TCM Universal titles seemed to have slowed to a dead halt and the same seems to apply to the Universal/Paramount from Amazon too.
Oh, well, I just got a lot of Warner Archive ordered from DD for $14.54 each while the going is good. Pity the newer titles have not got to DD yet.

How right you are! Fatty is Pufi in Magyar. Zsiros in Magyar is also Fatty. In German we have Dick und Doof which makes Ollie the first named actor in the time there not Stanley.
The description of two films Pufi was in(German films) was quite funny. Adds a little momentary humor to the blogs.
