Looks like a great day. Especially excited to see The Trespasser (1929). Its one of those films I never thought would make it to TCM.

Page of Madness! One of those things I always wanted to see, but New Line wanted an absurd $250 rental for it when I knew it would draw 18 people, back in Film Society days.

I saw Huck Finn at SFSFF. It was beautiful to watch but I must admit I think I was on overload and may have dozed a bit.
It mucks about with the story but is still worth seeing.

I've seen Page of Madness here in New York, it was a long time ago so I don't remember where or when, but it's very cool. I remember the presenter explaining that in Japan there would be a narrator (I forget the exact term) who would "explain" a silent as it played. Or maybe I read that somewhere, not sure. But well worth seeing. Thanks for the information!

A "benshi" is the traditional narrator of a Japanese silent film. Nice to see this film is available. I saw it in film school and still remember it.

Hello, All----I remember TCM showing TOM SAWYER(1917) a few years ago, and it was presented in the worst way. It had an atrociously talent-free, ugly score, a dim image, and shown in a glacial, slow-motion speed. I hope the they do things right this time.

Cole,

:) No worries. The George Eastman House restoration of HUCK FINN is outstanding image quality. Hopefully they will use the same score that it has been touring with.

.... can't wait to see THE VALIANT, Muni's film debut and first Oscar nomination. William Fox, perhaps because he lived in New York City, signed up more Broadway actors than any other studio. Muni and Marguerite Churchill were among the first, but people forget that it was also Fox who brought Bogie and Tracy out to Hollywood.

Looking forward to THE TRESPASSER, too, if only to hear Gloria warble, "Love, Your Magic Spell Is Everywhere".

Have any of these been broadcast on TCM before, or within say the last 10 years? If they have, I missed out on them completely. Here's a nice tie-in for "The Lottery Bride," with ZaSu Pitts:

TCM Dec. 14
1:30 PM - Lottery Bride (1930) - Jeanette MacDonald, Joe E. Brown, ZaSu Pitts.
