Alas, I do not have cable so I missed this TCM event. I hope the DVD set is coming out soon?
In the meantime, I have a question for those of you who saw Mabel's Dramatic Career. Did the "reconstruction" involve different editing than the version in Image Entertainment's Slapstick Encyclopedia? (which according to silent era is based on the 1918 re-release. . .)
I'm just curious about what might have been different in the 1913 version. Any ideas or speculations?

Bump.

Paul, if you're there... any ETA on this yet? After the fiasco with the "Our Gang" silent collection, I fear it falling into the abyss.

All good here, Doug. CineMuseum is announcing distribution plans for this and two other projects later this week, perhaps early next. Sit tight.

Paul, the suspense is killing me, you fiend! I've been waiting to give CineMuseum my ill-gotten gains for far too long...

Turner Classic Movies here in Germany is limited to the occasional Astaire-Rogers film, never anything extraordinary like TCM in the US. I'm dying to see The Mack Sennett Collection -- and all the other incredible projects that Paul and Brittany are working on. Between the Sennett Collection, the reconstructed version of Langdon's THERE HE GOES, Paul's forthcoming Roscoe Arbuckle biography and DVD set, and the latest books from Steve Massa, Mike Hayde, Steve Rydzewski, and Richard Roberts, it's a bountiful time for any Silent Comedy buff.

It certainly is! The comedies look terrific when TCM broadcast them last summer.

This is news to me. Is it a Cinemuseum project?

Sorry Ed, didn't mean any torture. I had no idea you are living in Germany, always thought you were an East coast guy.

Me? Born in Brooklyn - lived in New Jersey - relocated to southern Germany about a year ago. The internet keeps us all close together.

The Mack Sennett 1925 Harry Langdon short THERE HE GOES was released as a three-reeler. Paul Gierucki has tracked down all known existing fragments of the film (over a reel in length) , and with the original stills (courtesy Sam Gill) is crafting a reconstruction. And this is just one small example of all the marvelous work he is currently doing.

Are you in Bavaria, Ed? My girlfriend spent a couple of years living there, west of Munich, between Augsburg and Ulm (which always reminds me of that Monty Python sketch about the composer with the impossibly long name).

Distribution negotiations continue. I would not hazard a guess as to when they will be completed, my previous expectations were a bit too optimistic, let me simply say that we will announce plans as soon as the agreement is finalized. As of today, things look very good.

Oh Paul,
I will be keeping you in my prayers.

I hope the negotiations resolve favorably & quickly.
(Besides the fact that we want to be able to buy these discs to enjoy them in our living rooms),
We want you to get some cash flow in your direction.
All the $ you must put out to find & aquire the materials...I am hoping to know you have some $ coming back in.

Thanks for all you are doing for the rest of us.
Agnes McFadden

Paul, my money is yours the instant this collection hits the street. Many, many thanks to you and your compatriots for all you've done and continue to do for the cause.

Deepest thanks, Jeff & Agnes. Thankfully it not just us, there has been an entire team of people working furiously to make it all happen in the precise way that it needs to happen. This is not just about getting the job done, rather it is about getting the job done right -- which has been particularly complicated with the sagging economy and a rapidly changing home video market. Regardless, it is happening.

Thanks again!

Thank you for the update. :) And particularly for the highlighted section - that's exactly what I like to hear/read!

He'll likely announce it here at some point but Paul Gierucki just said it on Facebook:
It's official: CineMuseum & Keystone Films have teamed with Flicker Alley to release the Mack Sennett collection on DVD, Blu-ray and VOD! It is an absolute thrill to partner with Jeff Masino, his products are always of the highest quality, and this promises to be our greatest effort to date. There is still a lot of work ahead but we expect the collection to drop next year. Will keep you posted on our progress!
Excellent news.

Some days, like today, I think this is actually a pretty good era for film weirdos like us. I have a suggestion for our friends at the San Francisco Silent Film Festival. A few years ago, they showed Melies films interspersed throughout the event. It would be grand if they did the same with Keystone films next year. Who among us wouldn't like to see some of these films on a big screen. Say, a short before each feature as nature intended.

This rocks!
It's amazing that 100 year old films are more more funny than most prime time television.
I can't wait for this set.

Thank you Paul.

I don't really consider it all that amazing... I wouldn't argue with anyone who suggested that the average phone book is more funny than most prime time television!

Is this the proposed Mack Sennet collection?
Mack Sennett's Bathing Girls at the Ocean Park Peer (circa 1919). Part of Mack Sennett Keystone (Vol. 1), a Flicker Alley/Keystone, Inc. presentation. Coming soon in a Blu-ray+DVD edition.
Seems like we'll be getting multiple volumes.
