The White Rose is one of the films I have waited so long to see. This was shown in Finnish Film Archive some ten years ago but I missed it...

A badly washed out copy has been around for years. The original film, if I remember right, was hand tinted in greens and pinks....

Wm. K. Everson said that a beautiful tinted/toned copy was allowed to decompose in the 1960s. The washed out copy Ed talks of is the last minute dupe made from the tinted copy before final decomposition. So sad!

Saw it at Pordenone a few years ago - I just checked and it was a MoMA print dating from '77; the only thing washed out about it that I can recall was Carol Dempster's performance; but if a better copy has surfaced, great...

That was shot at the Shadows-on-the-Teche Plantation here in Louisiana.
