It's so hard to get quality copies of his films over here in the UK, a lot haven't been released on our region, and even if you look into the 'unoffical' releases, they're often accompanied with a bad score. In my mind, he's overlooked by us Brits!
Well, to be fair, multi-region DVD players are really quite common and cheap over here in the UK now - although you might have to see which ones are multiregion via a search of forums etc, as they don't always tell you on the box! But my last multiregion DVD player was about £30 (multiregion blu-rays are another thing entirely). I'm all too aware that such a purchase isn't always possible in our current economic climate, but it's worth bearing in mind when your current one breaks down and needs replacing, and it's certainly worth it if you are a silent film fan as it opens up the world of region 1 discs.

Amazon UK marketplace offer the Warner Archive series at varying prices - I picked up a new copy of Across to Singapore last week for £8 including postage, for example. The prices go up and down almost on a daily basis, so I shove the films I eventually want to get on a wish list and check the prices once a week, or whenever I have cash to spare.
I have looked into purchasing a multi-region player, which I shall do in the future - however, when I come accross something affordable, there's often some fault according to reviews etc. I think the lack of good Novarro releases on region 2 shows a general lack of interest in some parts of the world when compared to other silent stars, and that disappoints me.

An alternative is to buy something like AVS Converter.... With this software I can convert any DVD to play on my DVD player. I can buy films from Europe and convert them to NTSC (from PAL) and eliminate Regions by making the disk region free all in one conversion. I can also go the other way to create PAL disks etc.

This may not be as good a solution as buying a region-free DVD player but it works for me until I have to shell out and buy another DVD player.....

Yes, that works too, drednm. As for DVD players having faults, if you read enough reviews of anything you'll find someone complaining about something. It's what we get for being able to read so many customer reviewers, sadly. A blessing in one way, but someone's always going to make you think twice!

I've since 'unlcoked' my DVD player using a code I found online - I tested the thing, and it really works. I tell you, I feel so liberated!

About 20 bucks? Hope you like it better than I did, Joan's stunning face notwithstanding.

No, that's about $13 - and stupidly cheap for a Warner Archive title if you live in the UK!

I enjoyed it, although the story kind of falls apart at the end. Why wouldn't Cap'n Mark hop a boat headed for home instead of simply stewing in his juices in Singapore (although, as Mike S. is fond of saying, "If Anna May Wong, I don't wanna be wight!")? And why would Navarro's character allow his betrayer Finch to come along for the ride to rescue his brother? Hard to believe they got to Singapore without incident, surely Finch and his gang would have tried to pull something en route, why wait until Cap'n Mark turned up? At least Joan's face is stunning, even when it appears in the bottom of a glass.

Actually, speaking of Anna May Wong, I wonder why she goes uncredited here, I figure she would have been well enough known by this time to rate a mention in the cast list.
