...are coming in May, one silent and the other sound, but might as well group them in one thread. A collection of Max Linder's three American features is set for 27 May and the LOC restoration of
The Death Kiss (1932) will be out on the 13th. The latter will be on both formats; the Linder collection appears to be DVD only.

Good news--will be glad to finally let the laserdisc go.

Always nice to see more David Manners (and of course, Lugosi) released on home video, although who'da thunk The Death Kiss would be a prime candidate for blu-ray? Fun poverty row title though, glad I caught it when it aired on TCM last year, but not something I'd need to see more than once.

Great news about the Max Linder-DVD. One question though: will we now finally be able to see the entire BE MY WIFE, or is this the excerpt seen previously?

It's the whole BE MY WIFE, and also one of his Essanay comedies, MAX WANTS A DIVORCE.

Kino's Slapstick Symposium returns, with Max Linder! EXCELLENT news about the complete BE MY WIFE as well as THE THREE MUST-GET-THERES, plus an extra Essanay short even. I'll still have to hang onto the old Max Linder DVD for all of those other shorts though. Not that I mind.

Splendid. When I became interested in Linder's work just 10 years ago I found it frustrating that so few of his films were accessible in decent shape, and am grateful that's now changing.

This is great news. I hope some day the European archives will release Le Petite Cafe and King of the Circus, both of which survive in multiple prints.

No you mustn't let you old technology "go" because you never know, there might be differences on the laserdisc that are not on the bluray??? It might be colour tinting??... It might be a commentary track??.... It could be some different 'extras'??? There might even be extra scenes on the laserdisc that are not on the bluray?? These things happen!
