I had wanted to see this film after reading about the upgraded version from Grapevine, and that it is ranked very high in terms of being a very good silent movie. I just watched this film for the first time. It is the upgraded version from Grapevine. I had never seen the film before so I have nothing to compare it to in terms of picture quality as it is noted on this site that previous versions were almost unwatchable.
I came away impressed with the clarity of the picture, and also with the score. There were some dark scenes, but those were night scenes and it was quite easy to follow the action. The score is not what I would consider a traditional silent film score, but it worked quite well. Overall, I am very pleased with this newer version from Grapevine and would recommend it.
