I learned the other day that my niece's high school class is having a graduation party at Forest Lawn, Glendale. I was fascinated. Has anyone been to a party there? My mind overflows with jokes.

I haven't been to anything, but Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills often has band concerts, such as on Memorial Day and the like, as well as classical concerts.

Forest Lawn in Glendale is like a weird Disneyland for pompous kitsch art and architecture. It is one of the best tourist attractions in LA, but people don't realize it. My great grandmother is buried in the Grand Mausoleum, which isn't open to the public. But if you know someone buried there it's amazing... like something out of The Loved One or a Dracula movie. I love Forest Lawn.

Oh man, I am with you there. A friend once referred to it as the Disneyland of Death, so great minds and all. It's like EvelynWaughLand.

I've been in the Grand Mausoleum because I knew someone buried there. I agree, it is the inspiration for The Loved One. All I can think of is Dr. Joyboy and Amy Thagatoginous and Liberace selling caskets!

Update: It turns out that the high school graduation and not just the party was held at Forest Lawn. I did not get to attend, but it was a nice ceremony in a nice setting. My sister-in-law reports that two families chose not to participate because they felt that it was culturally inappropriate to have a graduation in a cemetery.

Interesting they would have such an event, yet they will not allow a fan with flowers to place them on a grave. (I'm not talking about the Michael Jackson fans, either.)
