I would buy it for that cover alone, but the prospect of perspicacious Lorusso prose within just nails the deal for me. Way to go, Ed!

Good luck with the book. I'm a huge fan of Marion Davies :D I've always thought she was such a great actress and never got the credit she deserved.

Thanks.... Not planning anything comprehensive like a bio but it may be of interest..... It always pisses me off that any kind of intro (like on TCM) instantly devolves into a discussion about Hearst and/or Kane. At some point Davies and her performances need to stand alone.

Just out of curiosity, which Marion Davies silent films are lost, and most desired to see? (I'm sure they're all worth finding copies of, but I was wondering if there are any particular gems that are currently unavailable in any form.)

As a silent actress IMO she stands out as one of the best and is a favourite of mine. But I believe the talkies ruined the legacy of her career in the eyes of many and Hearst could be blamed for that. Not that she couldn't act in talkies but badly miscast in innapropriate sugary films for a mature actress. It's been the elephant in the room for her body of work aside from her relationship with Hearst.

If she was a contract player for a major studio they would have let her grow up and let the market and fans decide her future. As I have said before I believe she would have made a cracking femme fatale or dramatic actress. Good that you are sticking to her silent films. That's were she shone.
