Lots of great silent discs for ten lousy bucks, plus I can fill in volumes of Early Russian Film I was missing. Nice.

Yesterday I ordered the complete set for $100. I already had two of the volumes in the set, but it was actually cheaper to order the whole thing than to order the other eight volumes separately.
But now I'm a little pissed. Milestone's publicity says shipping is free to Canada if the order is $100 or more. Apparently they mean $100.01 or more, because I'm getting dinged $30+ for shipping.

Ouch, I just bought a couple discs from there last week. :-/ Oh well. At least now I can buy the ones I was on the fence about. I'm noticing some of these are getting difficult to find at the normal places I buy discs from.

So Milestone doesn't have a free shipping minimum?

Yes, they do. I forget what the American minimum is, but for Canada it is $100, as I mentioned in my previous post.

Sorry, Jim, but that shipping minimum must be a mistake from using a much earlier time. Do you know where we say that so I can correct it? Unfortunately, shipping to Canada has more than tripled in the last few years and we had to stop that. We did add UPS Ground at a Canadian buyer's request, which in many cases has lowered the cost.
Please understand everybody, that at $10 each, our producer or archive gets half of that in most cases, so if we gave free shipping, we'd be close to losing money on these.

It's a tough world out there to make a buck in, especially selling niche products out there. I will say that my order shipped really quickly and the shipping charges weren't outrageous.

Hi Dennis,
It shows up as you work through the checkout. If I remember correctly, it's stated near the top left of the page, possibly the payment method page or the shipping address page. I noticed that in spite of it being there, the discount didn't get applied when I completed the shipping page. (Sorry if this is too vague but I don't have time to do a dry run through the process right now!)

My shipment was delivered last night (yes, last night!) and I had to pay the shipping fees COD. They came to more to $58!!!
No blame on you, Dennis. I know it's the Post Office.
These international postal fees ought to be on the table for the NAFTA talks this week!

SHH! If you get it noticed, they'll add the fees in the US too!!
My Milestone package arrived yesterday in fine shape. I only had to say "Hi" to the postman, no extra fees.

If you missed the sale and didn't know about it, the best way to find out is by signing up for our private (never shared) email list. The link is here:

The other way is to expect it in the summer when we have our interns and our son home. Amy and I can't do this ourselves. The good news is that we are donating a dollar from every sale from August 1 through the rest of the year to the Southern Poverty Law Center and we're about to send our first check out. That makes us very happy.
