The Seed Art of Buster Keaton

Unread post by Mike Gebert » Mon Sep 04, 2017 7:48 am

In the midst of a polemical article about how even seed art (that is, mosaics made of seeds) at state fairs has been politicized...

there is a lovely rendering of Buster Keaton in the seed medium.

Scroll down 3/4 of the way:

For anyone on the Damfinos Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/BusterKeatonSociety/), this artwork was recently featured. It was created by Keaton scholar Lea Stans. I believe it won a prize, and well deserved it is too.

Is it ever. The detail, the finesse, the shading--as Mike says, it's lovely.

Really sad that people can't keep their politics to themselves for even something as simple as a seed mosaic contest. The kids are the ones I feel for as I try to be pretty apolitical around kids.

That said, great picture of Keaton!

Amazing! (I'm a lurker/rare post-er, but this is worthy of exclamation!)

Buster was the first prize winner for Crop Seed Art at this year’s Minnesota State Fair, which is the largest in the country. There’s Buster in the center of the green frame of winners. The woman to the right of him is a runner up, Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

... and, to complete the loop and answer the question of why Buster was featured (aside from it being the centenary of his film debut), Lea has written extensively on Keaton's performances at the 1963 Minnesota State Fair. https://silentology.wordpress.com/2014/ ... tate-fair/
