A lost 1928 Walt Disney cartoon featuring Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, the character that would lead to the creation of Mickey Mouse, has been found in Japan.

The 16mm copy of Neck 'n' Neck was in the hands of an anime historian Yasushi Watanabe, who had bought it when he was in high school nearly 70 years ago, but had not realized its significance.
Disney has been doing a good job getting the word out about the lost Oswald films so that discoveries like these are made. Here's hoping it makes its way to a public release like Disney has done with previous Oswald finds.

In this case, what clinched the discovery was that Watanabe cross-referenced the film with the recently published book Oswald the Lucky Rabbit: The Search for the Lost Disney Cartoons by David Bossert. How delighted Bossert must be to know that his book has worked like a charm!
