DER KAUFMANN VON VENEDIG/The Merchant of Venice (1923) is now online here:

in a restored version with English titles and music by Neil Brand.

Here we have the rather problematic Werner Krauss playing Shylock, a role that he was famous for on stage. While Krauss was a consummate actor he was in all probability also an antisemite. His vile racial stereotyping as "the Jewish people" in Veit Harlan's hate-filled JUD SÜSS indicates that he was either a dyed-in-the-wool Nazi sympathizer or an opportunist lick-spittle of the regime. Eliabeth Bergner in her memoir UNORDENTLICHE ERINNERUNGEN recalls getting so mad at Krauss when he visited her in London in the thirties that she tried to upset a rowboat they were in on the Thames to drown him.
All of this has meant that I have always dissected rather than watched his performance in DER KAUFMANN VON VENEDIG. Make of it what you will.

Can someone figure out how to key the right title into the YouTube Roku app for this flm?

It does not find the film either as "Der Kaufmann von Venedig" or "The Jew of Mestri".

I can run it on my computer from the link above, but would rather watch on my big screen.

The only way I could find this on Roku was by searching for "filmmuseum munchen" then going over to the results on the right and scrolling to the very bottom of the list. Title searches are ineffective for these FMM links, maybe they aren't up long enough to get indexed.

Also a big thanks to Arndt for updating us on these.

If you have access to a web browser on whatever device you are using (computer, TV, tablet, whatever), then follow the links to the web page (on the Vimeo web site) to play the video.

I understand the video is not on YouTube. I was searching for it on the Vimeo app on Roku. I have found all the other offerings from Munich that way.

We were responding to "how to key the right title into the YouTube Roku app for this flm".

Maybe see if the Vimeo app lets you paste the URL for a video. Some videos on these services (Vimeo, YouTube, etc.) are unlisted and not findable via searching. You need to access them directly via their URLs.

Try making an Vimeo account on your computer, then save the video to watch later or liked videos. Then if you log into your Vimeo account on Roku, the video will be saved in either place.

Usually just a few days. Probably best to link to their Vimeo account, then click on whatever movie they have showing. If you look at the description of the movie ("Read more") it tells you how long it will be online.

OK Martin, here's what to do:

1. Install the Firefox browser if you don't already have it on your computer.
2. Click the upper-right corner to reveal the drop-down menu.
3. Click the "Add-ons" option.
4. Search for "Vimeo downloader".
5. Install what's called the "Awesome Vimeo Downloader".
6. Instead of using the Filmmuseum's referral link, use this Vimeo-direct link: https://vimeo.com/472198383
7. Start playing the video (but not yet full-screen).
8. Click on Firefox's new downloading icon (it looks like a blue letter "V" with a curl on top) in the upper-right corner of your browser window.
9. Follow the instructions that will drop down, and when the progress bar has finished moving rightward -- the movie file will temporarily reside in your computer's RAM, ready to transfer to your downloads folder.
