For me, from now on, this "woke" crap is synonymous with hypocrisy. I'm done with today's society if things are getting this stupid and I'm not listening to their arguments anymore.
Well, BB, I think then that you have to swear off of Humanity as a whole, not just Wokeness...

Because though yes, there's some extremism right now on that side, over the course of history the problem of narrowmindedness and the desire to censor and control has actually been more on the other side, with the hyper-moralistic Bluenoses.

A pox on both their houses!

I for one was really looking forward to the Canterbury (NZ) University film club. They were second to none... until this happened! :(

F**k Pordenone and San Francisco Silent Film Festival. Those amateurs can't hold a candle to the the university film club. It's got such a nice cosy atmosphere, everyone of its 46 members knows everyone else. I was so looking forward to going, like I used to do every year! :( Until now, that is! :(

I just don't understand what happened. I'm sure that everyone here knew, and respected, this film club long before they made the news with this bout of madness. When such a well-known, once highly respected festival goes off the rails, I am sure that we all share a deep feeling of disappointment, or even a tinge of despair.

Not a bad idea, but I'll start with wokeness. I'm seeing a world where Chaplin is being cancelled (well, that play was sure cancelled) and I'm expected to approve of Pepe Le Pew being blackballed while I've got my hands full dealing with misogynist monsters trying to lecture me Cosby did nothing wrong and his accusers are all liars they are laughing at. This in one heck of a world, isn't it? Like I've said before, better get used to this stuff, because it's just going to get worse.

I know I wrote that I wouldn't post on this thread anymore, but this recent quote by former New York Times Op-Ed page editor and columnist Bari Weiss seems appropriate to this discussion:

"Liberalism insists that there are things that fall outside of the realm of politics — literature, art, pleasure, love, friendship, family. The new movement would have you believe that every movie can only be understood through the lens of gender or race or politics. That every story and every book must serve a political cause. That every family member and friend must be subjected to a litmus test. Liberalism rejects that. So do I. In the end, that is what I am fighting for: a world where you don’t have to think about politics constantly." -Bari Weiss
