Some of these seem awfully short....

:) The November schedule is very exciting for the return of THE VIKING, and Chaney's WHERE EAST IS EAST. Plus the premier's of the newly restored versions of Pickford's POOR LITTLE RICH GIRL, and THE HOODLUM. I guess they are running those rather than the new SPARROWS? Maybe that will still be shown too come December? Sure hope so? Is SPIES a TCM premier?

:? On the definite downside, I'm perplexed as to why THE KID is listed at just 50 Minutes? The film certainly doesn't need anymore cut's than it has already suffered.

Also I find it interesting that they are showing Ramona(1910) for the third time this year as if thats the only Pickford biograph TCM has in their library.

They should show Willful Peggy instead.

:D LO! I glanced over YANKEE DOODLE IN BERLIN! Hope that is a brand new restoration. I've seen the old Grapevine print, but it was very incomplete. Nice to have something with Marie Prevost. The guy who does the Theda Bara Impression is simply hilarious! Did Theda really dance that way??? I guess that we will probably never know?

Yeah, RAMONA (1910)? I want RAMONA 1928! Good to see IT running again, but it could certainly be broadcast at a better hour.

Mabel Normand in Episode 2

Post by Marilyn Slater » Mon Oct 04, 2010 11:27 pm

Moguls and Movie Stars: A History of Hollywood will roll out with a new episode every Monday, beginning November 1st and finishing in mid-December on TCM
I received an email from Wilkman Productions; Mabel Normand appears in Episode 2 (The Birth of Hollywood), which will air November 8th. Jon Wilkman, the creator is doing interviews on October 6th, so we will know more after that. They are using some of the stuff from Looking for Mabel when they cover our Mabel. Christopher Plummer will narrate each of the one hour TCM's Seven-Part Series; I will post more information as it comes my way and would like to know what others might know about how she is covered.
Elise Crane Derby, West LA City Editor of Savvy Source has seen an early version and from what she said in an email they talk quite a lot about Mabel - her acting, directing, personal life, and death. Also she found it interesting how much they talk about women in film through the 50's.

THE VIKING was made in 2-color Technicolor. It's surprising that TCM would be showing it in B&W.

Perhaps this is a error in the listing? I know they've shown it in the 2 color Technicolor print in the past.

let's hope it's an error in the program listing.

Is that the new restoration of Metropolis TCM is showing on November 7? It's listed at 120 minutes, but it's in a three hour slot.

Gary, Rudy Fan,

Yes it will be the new restoration. And the THE VIKING should be in Color. Anyone having trouble accessing the TCM Forums. I am unable to access any thread. I can read the names of them, but that is all. Very frustrated. Still don't know the January schedule because I can't get through to the link. :?

The Squaw Man.... Since I'm reading the DeMille bio by Scott Eyman, I'll try this one again although I remember not liking it much.

Also worth looking at Yankee Doodle in Berlin which I remember being slapsticky and funny in places...

Look at the director and log line. Perhaps the fine folks at TCM are a might confused. Or maybe Fleischer's career lasted a lot longer than I thought, and he's doing a DeMille and in the late '50s, he remade his version of 10 Commandments?

I'd stay up late for that double :)

`When Comedy Was King' includes the beautiful sequence from `A Pair of Tights' where Marion Byron can't keep the icecream in her cone. She and Anita Garvin slay me. :D

Re: Movies and Moguls, each week for seven weeks a new episode will premiere on Monday nights.

Beginning the second week, the previous week's episode will have an encore screening prior to the premiere of the new episode.

In April at a discussion about the film, Tom Brown, VP of Original Programming for TCM, thought the entire seven-part series would run back to back towards the end of December.

Don't know if that has changed or not.
