The actual Texas is a block from my house in Atlanta. The General itself is at the museum in Kennesaw.

I'll chip in to say that the nearby Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is a pleasant place to visit if you're a Civil War buff. They have a nice little museum. The hiking trial that runs up the mountain provides a clear picture of why the Union soldiers who tried to climb the mountain were slaughtered by the Confederates on top. The Battle of Kennesaw Mountain happened in 1864 during Sherman's March to the Sea, long after the theft of the General in 1862.

Technically, Kennesaw was part of the Battle of Atlanta. Sherman starting Marching to the Sea after he finished with Atlanta in the fall of 1864.

I just finished reading a book called "Stealing the General" by Russell Bonds. It's very good and the descriptive recreations of the towns at the time are quite evocative
