‘The Avenger’ is a serial killer on the loose, who is taking blonde women as his victims. An unknown man arrives at Mr and Mrs Bunting’s house looking to rent a room, and as the couple’s blonde daughter’s detective boyfriend begins to suspect the stranger, things begin to unfold. Hitchcock’s third film and the first to employ crime as the vehicle of suspense.
