The General
Buster Keaton & Clyde Bruckman (1927) 35mm 74min

ACMI Cinemas, Federation Square, Melbourne
8.45pm, Wed 7 May

Legendary comedy set during the Civil War with Buster playing a railway engineer whose train, 'The General', is stolen by Union soldiers behind Southern lines.

When Keaton's character steals back his train, aided by his well-meaning girlfriend, and is pursued by a posse of irate Yankees, hilarious scenes unfold thanks to his amazing use of props, stunts, and the dimensions of the cinematic frame.

Screens with short film:

Neighbors
Edward F. Cline & Buster Keaton (1920) 18 mins

Keaton's fifth co-directed short reveals a significant development in sophistication and comic timing.
