Saturday, February 11, 7:00 pm
Silent shorts from H. Lee Waters’s “Movies of Local People” collection. From 1936 to 1942, Waters filmed people going about their daily activities in the small-town South. Local movie theaters screened the shorts, and Waters’s subjects could see themselves on the silver screen. The H. Lee Waters Film Collection at Duke University commissioned Americana musician Jenny Scheinman to compose a score set to the footage, and it will be performed live by her trio.
