:D Wow! ORCHIDS AND ERMINE, and BARBED WIRE too! As rarely as either of these movies are screened, these are some great events.

I have seen "Orchids...." screened twice in about a year and a half, so it ain't that rare.

:? It is rare in 35 Millimeter. And this is probably the Kodascope. Anything with Colleen Moore is rare in my view. Until she get's some movies on TCM.

BARBED WIRE is a tremendous movie. Pola Negri is great.

I'm real happy that Niles have scheduled these two titles - I'm not a big early slapstck fan, so I don't attend their shows very often. I haven't seen either of these films, so I'll be there both weekends - looking forward most to Barbed Wire.

Well, Chris Snowden can correct me on this, but I believe most of what is shown at Niles is 16mm.

Because if it doesn't air on TCM, it doesn't exist.

No, COLLEEN MOORE doesn't exist on TCM, and that just shouldn't be the case. I assume that if her early Warner Talkies survived that TCM would run them from time to time. So it seems that the don't. Richard Barthelmess, Billie Dove, and even Corinne Griffith have had at least a few early talkies shown.

Jeff... TCM just ran (last month?) Success at Any Price with Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. and Colleen Moore. I believe TCM has also run talkies like The Power and the Glory and possibly Social Register and The Scarlet Letter.

Yes, the Saturday night screenings are almost always 16mm. I assume they'll be running a 16mm print of the Kodascope edit of Orchids and Ermine, but I'm not sure.

What a charming film – I would call this a “Colleen Moore” vehicle as she carries the film; the other characters are just along for the ride. She sure is a pixie – I’d only previously seen her in LILAC TIME, so this film really showcased her appeal. I loved the bit where she is miming to her millionaire to go to the phone booth so she can ring him from the reception desk. Loved the line up on the hotel staircase of dollies waiting to interview for the job – they all looked like a million bucks in their furs and feathers.

Jeff Codori was a special guest of the evening; he is writing a biography of CM and introduced the film – had some anecdotes about filming in NY and all the rain during the shoot. He also said UCLA is in the midst of restoring this film – his website is below

:D Thanks for the report. I love ORCHIDS AND ERMINE. It may have been just a typical programmer by Colleen's standards, but it is a very good programmer. Colleen is so funny, and so delightful. I'm working on a Slide-show of her right now.

Did they screen the Kodascope print? It is supposed to look very nice. However, the BFI has a full-length version in 35 Millimeter. So I am excited to learn that UCLA is doing additional restoration. Technically, the movie is still copyright to Warner's. Maybe in the coming year we might finally see HER WILD OAT. or the restored LILAC TIME premier on TCM? Sure hope so anyway.

It's a lot of fun, isn't it? I must admit I didn't really `get' Colleen Moore until I saw this one, though all the other things I'd seen her in had been fairly atypical, such as `Lilac Time'. I got a kick out of the Mickey Rooney cameo, too!

Only my second slide-show ever! I really need a few Moore stills from ELLA CINDERS and LILAC TIME so I can let that music play a little longer. I think I might have a couple for LILAC TIME. But I could use a few for ELLA CINDERS if anyone could help out? And is there a tie in song for IRENE some place? If so, it would be nice to have extra stills for that as well. Thanks.
