Pardon me if this has been discussed before, but has there ever been a release (DVD, VHS) of Damon and Pythias (1914). I'm a fan of Universal history, and this one's coming up on its 100th anniversary. Just would really like to watch the film if I can find it. I understand it's public domain, but I have yet to find anything about any releases. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It can be ordered from the LoC, as it is public domain. Just a matter of costs.

The LOC brought Damon & Pythias to Cinecon 4 or 5 years ago. At the time it was still being worked on.
Not sure if they're finished with it or not.

But if they do a restoration, it would no longer be PD, right?

I'm a little curious why Universal hasn't done some sort of release for this. I mean, for crying out loud, it's their first full-length movie and the poster for it is on their movie timeline at the beginning of the tour.

Only if they produce new media (title cards, music, etc.). The film itself cannot be re-copyrighted. It's doubtful that LOC, being a tax-supported government agency would copyright their work.

Contact me if you want a copy - as far as I know I am free to do that.
Just be aware that there's no music and the LoC is not officially done restoring this yet. It's possible that they will one day make a new and even better restoration (I believe they're waiting for some promising footage).

Just wanted to throw out a huge thank you to Spiny Norman for finding this for us!
The quality looks really good, considering it's a hundred years old.

Hats off to the LoC restoration team!
