Clap Hands, Here Comes Charlie

This thread - https://www.nitrateville.com/viewtopic. ... 9&p=211136 - was the old standard Clap Hands, Here Comes Charlie actually written for (or about) Charlie Chaplin, or was it merely coincidence?

Accompanists often use it to introduce a Chaplin film, but I've also heard it at the beginning of some of Charley Chase's sound shorts.
