Mary Margaret McBride

Post by Ray Faiola » Fri Jan 23, 2015 10:48 am

I mentioned this program a while back. Here is a youtube (transferred from 16mm print) of a pilot film that Mary Margaret McBride shot in her Catskills home in West Shokan, NY. Her guest for the entire half-hour is the legendary Eddie Dowling. The television interview series never materialized but McBride continued to do radio from her home until her death in 1976.

Mary Margaret McBride Eddie Dowling Ray Dooley

I was just thinking of MMM yesterday!
Thanks so much.... what a fascinating and valuable film from so many standpoints.
It's the first time I'd seen radio fixture McBride- or stage and film star/producer/writer Dowling- on film.
Eddie's amusement park idea sounded quite a bit like Disneyland.

Too bad the cameras didn't pan to show Dowling's wife, Ray Dooley (click here for bio and photos)-
a veteran of 13 Broadway shows, 4 with her pal, W C Fields. She has only 2 imdb credits, 7 fewer than her husband.

We have a Mary Margaret McBride Cookbook, the thing is huge! My father collected it in installments from the local grocery store back in the 60's.
