Vintage films on off-label dvds

Post by Phillyrich » Sun Dec 11, 2011 11:27 am

I have noticed at amazon that more and more vintage, but public domain dvds, are appearing on off labels and possibly on dvd-rs. Does anybody own any of the following titles, and how would you rate the remastering quality?

Of Human Bondage -(1934) Createspace Label

Penny Serenade -Digicomtv

Topper/Topper Returns - Triad

The Count of Monte Cristo (1934) - Henstooth Video (release date, Feb 2012?)

According to the Classic Flix announcement, the forthcoming Henstooth The Count of Monte Cristo (1934) and The Man in the Iron Mask (1939)
are officially licensed releases and both have new transfers from fine grain elements as well as English subtitles.
There is a recent Amazon "review" for each film (perhaps by someone at Henstooth?) also mentioning they are from 35mm fine grains.

Hen's Tooth Video is a quality company. They have released two of the late Powell & Pressburger collaborations Ill Met By Moonlight and Battle of the River Plate, both of which have have very good quality transfers. They have also released a nice edition of Sam Peckinpah's Cross of Iron.
